This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Have questioned these items with dealer always with no cause for concern. Talked about whether I needed an extended warranty at the time of warranty renewal and was not told of engine, transmission, or any of the problems with the engine by Ford.
When we contacted the dealership, we were told there were numerous problems with this make and model vehicle. We know of 3 other families in our area with the same problem. The dealer verified that there were approximately 10 calls by March 1, 1999.
We are submitting this notice because the auto repair shop that performed the work indicated that they had seen an unusual of relatively new Windstar and tauruses (same engine) had been brought in with the same engine failure.
While driving approximately. 70mph heard noise, slowed down to 20mph and vehicle continued to make loud clunking noise. Dealership turned engine off and vehicle never started again.
This is the second entry on this problem. I have since talked to 3 other Windstar owners who have had the same problem. I have not heard from you or Ford Motor Company concerning this matter. I feel this issue will escalate as more people discover that it is not an isolated incident.
This problem is widespread. It is a defect that Ford has admitted and thousands of people have been affected by it. It is a danger that causes people to lose power while on the highway, not to mention the thick smoke that pours out the back of your vehicle. The national dealer council has asked Ford to re-open the extended warranty on this particular problem due to the negative customer reaction- nationwide. Could someone please make Ford responsible for their mistakes!!!
Head gaskets blew during 12/98. This situation could possibly case serious injury or death under higher speeds. Ford would not cover the repair of the engine because I took the vehicle in on 1/4/99, 4 days after their warranty program 98M01 expired. Even though the dealer had tested the head gaskets as good during 10/98. Only two months earlier. This is a serious and pervasive problem that Ford should issue a full recall for. They are attempting to avoid the issue with their 98M01 program.
