My wife's 2002 Ford Windstar has had the ABS & brake light on, on our dashboard for a few months now. Ford dealerships seem to think it a non issue or a brake issue. All of my brakes have been replaced and the problem still exists. I have narrowed it to the ABS ECM module.

My 2002 Ford Windstar started this year in may having the ABS and brake warning lights come on intermittently. I had the system checked at reynolds Ford, norman, ok in July. They flushed the system and found no problems. The lights still come on regularly! [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

ABS light has been on for several years, but mechanics can find no problem with brake system. As of last week, odometer displayed dashes, speedometer is not operating, and there is little to no stopping capability in the brakes. No brake fluid, apparently.

Brake warning & ABS lights come on. I had the brakes checked and they said they were ok.. the lights come on and go off at will. No one seems to know what's wrong. I have heard of strange things happening. Like fires and accelerating.

My van brake light and ABS light had been coming on for at least 6 months... my mechanic was trying to determine if it was the ABS switch or ABS module and just reset the codes after a tune-up. We would add brake fluid to the car on several occasions. The failure occurred when I started my van and backed out of a parking spot. I smelled something burning and realized my van was smoking. At first I thought it was steam and then I realized it was white smoke. So I reparked my vehicle, shut it off and popped the hood. When I got around I followed the engine from left to right and in the back right was a perfect propane flame. I blew it out. I noticed the part was connected down below the brake fluid reservoir, wired ran to that part, on the bottom the part that was on fire was rusted. But it appeared to plug into the part it was attached to like a key and then wires came down from there... my mechanic disconnected the part saying I would not longer have cruise control and he ordered the part from Ford in milledgeville, ga. He replaced the part on 8/25/08. I do not believe the old part is still available. Since the part has been replaced my brake light and ABS light still come on!

The ABS and brake lights illuminate intermittently or either remains lit when the vehicle is running. The failure began in December 2005. The current mileage is 62,000. Also heater has stopped working in April 2008. Check engine light has been on since April 2006. RPM's suddenly will drop under 1000 and car will start stalling and bucking. Need to put it in park and rev the engine.

I have been reading about recent complaints to the Ford Windstar 2002 and have concerns. I had my ABS module replaced last year because all my idiot brake lights were going off intermittently. I have also not used my cruise control in over two years because once activated it will not shut off until the car is turned off. It appears that the brakes are related to the cruise control leaking on the brake line, but Ford does not see the Windstar as a problem. This concerns me, since there have been fires with the Windstar van. I also took my car into a Ford dealership to check the seat latches and was told my car was not covered. My recent repair woes is the air conditioner compressor is going. This was a problem with my last Ford Windstar. (related vehicle information: Model year=2002, make=Ford, model=Windstar).

My ABS brake light, emergency brake light and brake light would intermittently go off. Then it was every time my car was started. I was told my ABS module needed to be replaced. My car could be driven, but my ABS brakes would not work. I was told by two mechanics that this was a problem they had seen with my vehicle. My cruise control also sticks. I have not used my cruise in over a year, because once activated, you can not shut it off. The only way it resets is to turn the car off. The Ford Windstar is one of the only Ford vehicles not covered under the recall, but upon doing a web search have found that Windstar have started on fire because of this issue. Also, I received a recall on my mid/read seat latches. When I went to the dealer, I was told my car was not covered. I drive a 2002 Ford Windstar. I am very concerned about the recent recall since the brake line is directly related to the fires caused by the faulty cruise control. Please advise is the research is to include other Ford models.

Intermittent ABS and brake light illumination. This happens after the vehicle warms up. Vehicle has been inspected by Ford. No codes are found. This has been happening for over three years. Ford has a technical service bulletin #15682 (NHTSA item number: 636312) since 11/2002 to address this problem, but still can't rectify this problem. Ford has a voluntary recall for the same problem on other models from the same year. I have heard of many other owners who have the same problem.

ABS warning light comes on then goes off after vehicle shut off for a period of time. Headlights dim and interior lights don't shut off at times for a long period of time. Sliding door and door locks don't work properly at times and power window on passenger side doesn't open at times. Sliding door has opened on it's own at times after the vehicle has been vacated and locked.

My automobile keeps getting multiple emergency brake and ABS errors. The lights come on multiple times daily. Upon researching this problem it appears to be a wide spread issue with Ford Windstar 2001-2003. The issue appears to be a faulty brake system including the ABS system. Brake fluid leaks from a faulty sensor into electronic connectors causing the potential for fires. There are documented cases where this failure has caused fires. *note please review the following website www.2carpros.com/forum/8-VT49767.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=140 please review this safety defect soon!

ABS light brake light and traction control lights started coming on occasionally about 06/01/05. The problem got worse and happens every time the car was driven. The ABS module is defective and Ford needs to recall this part as they have on the Ford escape. The condition can lead to a fire. I have pulled the fuses so I don't catch fire. Please hold Ford accountable and force them to recall this problem!
