Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2L

I was reluctant to buy a GM product in the first place because of their reputation for this type of crap happening (cracked dash that keeps getting worse) but I guess a zebra never changes its stripes.

Dash cracked at the top of the passenger airbag compartment. I don't live in an area with extreme temperature swings either.

Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

I talked to dealership about problem and was told they can not fix the problem. My truck was in extended warranty at the time. I feel that GM is liable for this problem. At 72000 miles the transmission went out, the drive shaft went out and the air conditioner had problems. I was told that 2007 to 2013 GM trucks have these problems. If I could afford another truck, I would buy a Dodge. My son and the man I work for, have trouble free Dodges. The man I work for has 6 Dodges on his farm.

Update from Nov 23, 2018: The crack at the right side airbag could be very dangerous if it goes off. General motors is not taking care of their valued customers.

Update from Jun 8, 2019: 2012 GMC sierra 1500 crew cab z71 dashboard cracked, driveshaft fail, seat cracking on sides, transmission overall and other problems.

Update from Apr 23, 2022: 72000 miles everything went bad in my 2012 GMC crew cab SLT 4wd. Myself and family always bought GMs, No help from General Motors, we all own Dodge Trucks with no problems.

Sierra 1500 SLE 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

My dash has been cracked above where the airbag is on the passenger side, I went to the dealership to see about getting it fixed because I feel it is a safety problem. I am aware this is an ongoing problem because I own a detail shop and see many of the Sierra's with the same issue ranging from the 2009 year model all the way up to the 2013 year model. I think this should be a recall item since the issue is affecting most Sierra's in this year range. It's very frustrating that the issue doesn't start until after the warranty runs out. It looks terrible and in my opinion is a safety hazard. I feel this defect should be paid for by GMC and not by the individuals with the vehicles.

Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

I own a GMC Sierra Denali 2012. It just has 51k miles on it. I take care on everything since I bought it. I bought a dash protector cover to prevent damage due to a sun exposure, but even with that the dashboard got cracking. It makes me really angry because I never use this vehicle off road. I hope GM makes a recall on this because the dashboard is made by really cheap materials. It's not fair, with cost of the truck, especially on Denali edition that cost more than regular Sierra trucks. Definitely GM should take responsibility of this issues
