Christmas Eve sucked bc while I was sitting in my driveway warming up my 2015 GMC Terrain the Rear main seal blew and I had to get it towed. Car was not even in gear and I’m just learning now that this is a common problem that GMC refuses to rectify. Cost me $1621.30 to fix.

Terrain SXT 2.4L

My 2015 GMC Terrain has the following problems, evaporator system is frozen, needs value cover, 2 seals rear main and front seal, intake cover off and cleaned.

My wife has Parkinson's and Dementia and we were going to my daughter's house for Christmas and we were on the Hwy and the truck stopped and we couldn't move, -14 below outside and no one around to help us and need the truck towed to the garage to be fixed. My son in law had to come 45 miles to help us get to my daughter's house and I didn't get a tow truck till the next day it sat in the park and ride. I finally got hold of a towing company and they towed to the garage were the mechanic look at it today. I still owe $9,000 dollars on it and I really don't know were I'll get the money to pay to get it fix but I need the truck for my wife's wheel chair because of her Parkinson's. I can't believe this happened to us on Christmas while it's freezing cold out, I m not happy with the problem we had to go through.

Terrain SLT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

2015 GMC Terrain with the 2.4L motor, 78k miles. I have maintained this vehicle throughout. In single degree weather the rear main seal blew. My mechanic found Bulletin 14882 and referred me to the GMC dealership. First, they denied a problem, told them about the bulletin after a while he came back to the phone, said he found it and said there was no coverage for this problem.

GM Assist 800 462 8782, Total run around, said they would call back, never did.

Car's at the dealer now, expected >$3k to fix the seal, but it's not the problem. 1. excessive oil consumption. 2. condensation in the oil. 3. as a result PVC and intake gets clogged, then freezes and blows the rear seal.

This has been happening since the 2010 model, Chevrolet and GMC 2.4L motors.
