This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The rear window spontaneously shattered today. It was a cold morning approximately 35 degrees. Car was auto-started to warm it up. After driving the care for approximately 1/2 mile and while stopped at a stop light, the rear glass spontaneously shattered.
Vehicle was parked outside workplace during the work day. Upon returning to the vehicle the rear glass is completely shattered, only being held together by the tint. The vehicle was parked in front of the workplace cameras which prove there was no vandalism or outside cause for the rear glass to shatter.
While driving home from my doctors appointment today my back window just popped. No one was behind me or in front of me. While diving I hear a pop and looked through my rear view mirror and the whole glass was shattered!
On January 3rd, 2024, while the car was parked in the driveway, the rear windshield spontaneously shattered soon after parking at around 630pm. Upon inspection, there were no signs of any impact from a foreign object. The rear defrost was previously turned on to assist with visibility while driving in cold weather conditions. If this had occurred while driving, the sound of the glass itself spontaneously shattering would have completely distracted me and would cause an accident.
Question (Q): What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer (A): My rear windshield spontaneously shattered while I was driving on local roads. I was driving around 30mph during a clear night with good visibility, weather was around 57F on [XXX] around 8:07pm. Yes, I would like to have this inspected if requested. I will call Honda tomorrow to schedule a repair and request for them to keep the damaged item so it can be inspected. I have photo and video documentation of the entire event. On the website both on computer and cellphone, the Upload button is not working anywhere for me to submit this information. Please let me know where I can submit my photos and videos to. I have attached a Google Drive link where the dashcam, photos, and videos of the damage can be viewed and downloaded for the investigation. [XXX] Q: How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk" A: The rear windshield spontaneously exploded and made the vehicle unsafe to travel in under any capacity. The shattered glass is a safety hazard for myself and anyone near the vehicle. Q: Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A: The rear windshield is permanently shattered and I will request that the dealership service center holds onto the windshield for inspection. Q: Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others" A: At the time of answering this, the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone yet since it is around 9pm on [XXX]. I will take the vehicle in for service tomorrow at the Honda Service Center. No, there was no warning lights or anything to indicate that the rear windshield would randomly make a popping sound and spontaneously shatter such as the way it did on [XXX]. The vehicle was parked in my carport, and when I opened the door to get inside, the rear window (rear windshield) shattered. There was no foreign object, it wasn't hit by anything, it just shattered.
I was driving at night not near anyone on the highway when my back windshield just shattered. It was huge pop noise so I thought maybe a tire, so I looked at my warnings and nothing was going off. I couldn-??t see out of my back windshield clearly because the shattered glass, I didn-??t know it was shattered till I got home. I did have my defrost on, I don-??t know if that plays a part.
I was driving at night and no one was near me and my back windshield shattered. It made a huge pop sound, I checked my warnings for anything like my tires but nothing was showing up. Nothing hit it. I did have my defrost on but I don-??t know if that plays a part.
Sitting at a stop light and our back windshield just shattered. No impact. Car had been on for an hour so nothing to do with heating. Windshield just completely shattered and fell off. Car had recently been inspected a few weeks ago and nothing reported at the time. We had two dogs in back of car and could-??ve been bad.
The rear window shattered out of nowhere, while the car was parked. I fear that if this happened while driving or with backseat passengers, injury could have resulted.
Car was parked in grocery store parking lot. Started the car and turned on the rear defrost. Heard a loud noise and all of a sudden the rear window imploded. There was no contact with anything and the car has not been in a collision
The rear window of my one year old 2023 HrV suddenly shattered, thankfully while vehicle was parked. No impact to glass or reasoning, I filed an incident report with police out of concern, they had never seen anything like it but stated it was not due to any object impact. This happened right on Christmas weekend, leaving me without a safe car to drive which ruined some of plans and dealership was unable to assist but associate did mention she-??s seen another customer with same issue and there are many similar instances online. I could-??ve been driving or had my boy in the backseat when this happened. There seems to be some issue with the pressure points and placement of the window, frightening this can happen again. No warning lights triggered for this particular scenario. Please issue recall.
On 12/21/23, I went out to my secure garage to my 2023 Honda HRV and found that the back window had completely shattered. After further investigation, I did not find any obvious external reason for this incident. I had driven the car on 12/20/23, which was a rainy day and may have activated the rear wiper and/or rear defogger. But to my knowledge, there was no impact of any kind to the window. The component that failed was the rear window. No one was hurt; however, this could've been a safety issue if it happened on the road. There was no warning prior to the incident. The vehicle was purchased on 11/26/22 and was last serviced on 10/30/23, where no problems were noted. I called Honda, thinking this may be a product defect. They confirmed that it wasn't and that it was not covered by their warranty. I am going through my insurance company and am waiting for a window which is on back order, with no arrival date known. I had gently shut my car door and the back windshield exploded. Glass went everywhere, and if someone was in my back seat or standing behind my car, they would-??ve been cut. My car was not even on. Very very disappointing on Hondas part as I know 2 other people who have the same car and have had the same problem happen.
