The same problem here - had the dealer replace the valve cover gaskets (out of warranty - paid out of pocket) and they started seeping again about 15 months after the repair... It's definitely a problem as it drips right on the alternator...

I noticed oil on my alternator and realized it's coming from the valve cover. I went out and purchased new valve cover gasket and started looking into DIY forums (save money anyway possible)

In doing so I'm learning this 8s a common problem and also dangerous because possible damage to alternator causing car to completely shut down while driving!!! Why has Hyundai not recalled the2006 Sonata v6 but recalled the Sante Fe or whatever with this exact motor having the exact issues?!?!?

2006 Hyundai Sonata with a 3.3l engine is a piece of sh--. valve cover leaks with the oil leaking onto the alternator causing it to go out. Hyundai knows of this problem along with the NTSA and yet no recall. what the heck over, why is there no recall. Does someone have to die before the NTSA will issue a recall... I know for a fact Hyundai wont because it would cost them some of their money.

I had another car (Nissan) the same thing happened to but didn't know the issue was due to leaking valve cover gasket. With it I went through batteries & altenators which tested bad, but they were the end result of the actual problem. IF YOU DETECT OIL ON YOUR ALTERNATOR, CHECK YOUR VALVE COVER GASKETS & replace ASAP before the leak damages anything else. Its a cheap fix that will save you hundreds of $$ if left unrepaired.
