2015 Hyundai Sonata

My first experience (I am unsure of the actual date here…possibly eight months ago) of brake failure was in a residential area where I was approaching a stop sign. As I applied the brakes, I was unable to slow down or stop my vehicle. I frantically tried to keep depressing the brake pedal but to no avail. The cars that were traveling on a road perpendicular to the road I was on did not have stop signs and were moving along at around 30 mph. Due to the brake failure, I drove through the stop sign and turned into the traffic. Incredibly, I did not have an accident.

Because of my naïve confidence in the braking system on this vehicle, I concluded it must have been my footwear that was at fault. Wrong!!!!

My second experience of brake failure (1/19/2022) was backing out of a parking space at a local Subway. I tried to apply the brakes, but nothing… no slowing down, no stopping, no braking whatsoever. Due to a building that was directly behind me, I turned the steering wheel as hard as I could and avoided a crash that would have resulted in significant damage to the rear end of my Sonata. While I did hit the building, by turning the steering wheel as I did, I only had scratches and the building’s yellow paint marking up the rear panel on the driver’s side. After shifting into “Drive,” my car was unable to accelerate and performed like it was going to stall.

As I got out onto the road and into traffic, my car actually stopped… and then started to move forward… and then, for no apparent reason, seemed to return to normal. I was able to brake at the next stop light. I later turned into a parking lot and drove around. As I applied the brakes, there was a rumbling sound coming from the brakes. I put my car into reverse, tapping the brake pedal, and the brakes normalized. Since I could not trust the braking system after that incident, I drove 13 miles to my house at 40 mph with my flashers flashing. I did not and do not and will not trust the braking system on this 2015 Sonata until it is decidedly and unquestionably repaired. It is too dangerous to drive until this problem with the braking system is fully resolved.

Sonata SE 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

One day I applied the brakes on my 2015 Hyundai Sonata and nothing happened, the pedal just sunk to the floor and the car had a very weak stopping power. The Hyundai dealership blamed it on the brake pads needing to be replaced, so I had new brake pads and rotors put on all four wheels and guess what... it didn’t fix the issue.

I brought the car back and I was told I’m crazy, the issue was in my head. Other Hyundai vehicles have had recalls for ABS brake module failures, but clearly something is wrong with this car too. There needs to be a recall. This is extremely dangerous. Thank God I never got into an accident, I just gave up and traded the car in on Japanese. I will not be purchasing another Hyundai.

I brought a 2015 Hyundai Sonata in 2015. On March 25, 2018 it caught on fire on the express way while driving with me and my child inside the car. The brakes failed on me, did not stop/no complete stop, so me and my child had to jump out of a moving car on the express way on 3/25/2018. The car BLEW UP after we both jumped out of it. My phone number is 215-667-0842 my email is jsmith2kids@gmail.com.
