Jeep Grand Cherokee power steering leak!

We’re having the same problem that other Jeep owners are having, the steering rack leaks on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. The leak was discovered through regular maintenance check in 2018. We filled the reservoir with new fluid, and it was fine for the entire year. It wasn’t until July 2021 that we discovered that fluid was leaking from the Steering Rack and Pinion and spraying fluid on to the engine. It got so bad that we had to fill the reservoir daily!

It appears that Jeep knew about this problem since 2012 but failed to do anything about it.

This Jeep only has 55,000 miles. My wife uses it locally and it’s never driven more than 100 miles a month and it has never been driven off road. This is appalling that it suffers from this kind failure so early in the Jeeps life. When I confronted the Jeep/Chrysler company with this issue, there only response was “it’s outside the warranty timeline”. The rep name was Sade and she was rude!

This Jeep was garage kept throughout its life. We’ve maintained this vehicle in immaculate condition, so much so that it STILL HAS THE NEW CAR SMELL!!! Very disappointed in Jeep. They used to be very reliable until they were bought out by FIAT. Go figure!

I heard a sound while steering, checked the car and fluids, and found the reservoir for Steering Oil was Empty! This doesn't get empty by itself. I'm very disappointed in this incident. It looks like the Pump/Radiator is leaking and it will cost a fortune to fix... now the car is out of warranty. (5 years have passed.)

Why wasn't this problem caught at maintenance. 4 months later when I go in for an inspection they find a leak and because. My car is not under warranty it going to cost me $2600.00. I was a fan of Jeep but after reading all the complaints regarding this same issue, I believe manufacturer needs to take care of this.

I am losing power steering fluid on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland - there is a leak somewhere in the steering. I have 80k miles on this vehicle. There have been many complaints on this and is obviously a defect in the steering system - Chrysler should recall and repair this problem.

Purchased the Jeep used with a little over 41,000 miles. Put another 1,000 miles on it before leaving it parked for a week while on vacation. Came home yesterday and noticed a large puddle underneath the Jeep. Did the finger poke test before opening the hood and verifying the power steering fluid reservoir was low. Before I even got down and stuck my finger in the fluid my heart sank because I knew what it was. Do you know why? Because THIS IS THE SECOND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I'VE OWNED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I had a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same problem. That complaint is also on this website from a couple years ago. With the 2012 JGC I was able to occasionally top off the reservoir before the leak got so bad it had to be fixed. That was almost $1,300 so I'm dreading having to take this in for the same issue. I have no idea if the power steering setup is the same on the 2014 as it was on the 2012, but this is clearly something that Jeep can't get right nor have they even taken the steps to correct the problem. Unbelievably annoying.

While getting the oil change at a local oil service in Athens today and 1 of the techs came over and told us the steering fluid was gone and that was the tenth one he has seen this year. Called Dodge / Jeep to see about come by to get it looked at. Was told it would have to be done next week. Found this site and said hell no. I will not have my wife driving this. Went to the dealer and they decided it would be a great idea to leave it at the shop. Got the wife a rental and now we are waiting to see what's wrong and if Jeep will cover it. Wish us luck.
