As I was driving one day my car began to "miss" or jump. The check engine light illuminated and began blinking. I took the truck home and parked it. The next day I cranked the vehicle to see what it would do. Smoke began coming from my exhaust. We turned the car off and I had someone check my oil. It was extremely low. I've had the car looked at by a professional. I was told the turbo is gone. I was quoted $4700 at one place and $7500 at another. This seems to be a similar issue everyone is having. I have a 2017 with 90K miles. I keep the vehicle maintained properly so I have no idea how this happened.

Engine failure at 105, xxx miles. New short block engine at 105, xxx and loss of power at 110, xxx miles. Limp mode was able to reset after turning off the vehicle. It went in to limp mode several times. Dealership denies responsibility. Only goes into Limp mode at higher speeds making it even more dangerous. No check engine light.

My 2017 Kia Sportage has been a problem for several months and I have taken or had it taken (by tow truck) to the dealership several times. Engine not running properly, oil consumption, making strange noises and have been told that there was nothing that they could find or they would say they fixed something minor. The problems just keep compounding. The last incident happened while I was driving on the interstate and the engine started sort of vibrating and the check engine light came on. The car slowed in the middle of rush hour traffic and wouldn't go over 40 or 45 mph. The car had been using an excessive amount of oil prior to this so I always carried extra with me. The oil light never came on no matter how low the oil was. I was finally able to exit the interstate and get to a safe place to stop. I checked the oil and it did not even register on the dipstick. I checked it at least 2 times a week at this point because it was consuming so much oil. I had the car picked up and taken to Carriage Kia by tow truck. The dealership told me that the car needed a new engine because one of the cylinders was damaged and that it wasn't covered by the engine replacement recall, because they didn't have a recall for oil consumption.

When I pulled into work and turned off the engine, smoke started to come from under the hood which initially looked like overheating, but no gauges or lights were activated. The smoke started to get heavier, thicker, and darker, and then the hood started flaming and the whole entire car was engulfed in flames within about 5 or 6 minutes. The fire department came around 20 minutes after the 911 calls to extinguish my car.

- What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" The engine produced a check engine light 4 times in 2 months, and now is undrivable. - How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Always misfires in a cylinder. That can quickly become a safety issue when you're driving and it happens. Now there's no coolant in it and oil pressure light is on. - Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. - Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Dealership - Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" Check engine light came on mid November first. Summary of it all: - Mid November check engine light came on. Felt rough vibration when idling. Went to dealership, replaced 1 coil and 4 spark plugs and did a carbon cleaning. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back. Vibration when starting the car. Dealership replaced the remaining coils. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back. Vibration when starting the car. Local mechanic replaced a spark plug. - 2 weeks later, check engine light back, no coolant, no oil pressure. Waiting on Kia.

I purchased a pre-owned 2017 Kia Sportage (~34,000 miles) from a Kia dealership in January 2020. I had my oil changed in late June 2022 at approximately 64,500 miles. In early October 2022 at approximately 67,800 miles (+3300) I noticed my oil light flickering when I would break form a high rate of speed. I brought it in to be looked at and my engine had less than one quart of oil remaining. Not only did the engine consume ~5 quarts of oil in 3.5 months, 3300 miles, but almost more importantly oil light had barely begun to flicker to the deficit in oil. The kia oil consumption issues are well known at this point. However I was unaware of the oil pressure sensor being set to only register once the vehicle was down 4-5 quarts of oil from the fill level. I was told by the Kia service manager that my "excellent" warranty will in fact cover a new engine, but I will have to drive the car until the engine seizes or sustains serious damage. When I first noticed the issue I called Kia to make an appointment to be seen and they were unable to fit me in for 2 weeks. Out of concern for my safety I brought my vehicle to an independent repair center who then confirmed that there was less than one quart of oil in then engine when it was drained (attached service record). My car is currently at the Kia service center.

I purchased my Kia Sportage used in March of 2021. -By July, 2022 I noticed it was staring to burn a lot of oil. I had it at the shop and there were no leaks, --By September 1, 2022 I was driving up the interstate; the car lost power, check engine light was on and the car started shaking. -I checked the oil and it was good. We also checked all codes that were showing and replaced the spark plugs, coil pack, and VVT Solenoid. The car still was not running right. --September 15 I decided to take it to Timbrook Kia to see if I could trade it in or have it repaired. They would offer me $5000 due to engine issue. I was then told there was a recall on the CVVT Cover (later found out it was actually a service action #SA305). They said the CVVT Gear under the Cover was damaged which works the VVT Solenoid which controls the valves in the engine and they thought one of the valves was bent. They put in a request to have the repairs to be covered by Kia, but they denied it twice and claim that the gear was not responsible for the motor issue. -I contacted Kia Consumer Care, which is almost impossible, to be told that my motor was on a Class Action Settlement list and I should go online and fill out the claim form. I tried to fill out the form and found it was for reimbursement, so I called the number on the settlement site. I was then informed that I could not file for the settlement because my engine had not completely blown up or caught on fire and I was misinformed previously. -Over the past week, I have gotten nothing but the run around between Kia themselves and Timbrook Kia.

My car has been having an extreme oil consumption issue. I've been trying to get the issue fix with Kia for over six months. However, it is getting to the point were the engine runs out of oil and coolant in less than 500 miles. They told me the engine is damaged and it could fail and that the issue was caused by the excessive oil consumption. However, they will not cover it because damages by oil consumption are not covered by the manufacturer.
