walked into my garage and smelled gas. took the car to the dealer. they said i needed a new fuel pump because it was cracked. extended warranty covered this problem. Brought the car home, parked it in the garage, within the hour the garage reeked of fuel AGAIN! Took the car back to the dealer. They told me I needed a new fuel tank because it was corroded at the seem. I called Lincoln Motor company and explained the problem. They replied back in two days and said the couldn't help me because I did not buy the car new and the extended warranty did not cover it. Reluctantly I told the dealer to fix it at an expense of $1700.00. (NOT VERY HAPPY!!) Took two weeks to get a new fuel tank and another week for them to lets say fix the problem...NOT!! Brought the car home parked it in my attached garage. Guess what, the next morning it was leaking fuel so bad my eyes were burning. Looked down on the floor and there sat a puddle of gas two feet in diameter. Returned the car to the dealer, they smoke tested the fuel tank under pressure...guess what...NO LEAKS. Brought the car home, parked it in the garage...you guessed it, smelled gas AGAIN! Called the dealer...He was at a loss for words, his suggestion was to watch it for a few days. Mechanic said the car was safe to drive!! A few days later we left for vacation, went to fill the gas tank. After filling it I noticed fuel running on to the ground creating a puddle under the car. Returned the car to the dealer. They gave me a rental so we were able to go on vacation. When we returned from vacation I called the service department (they think they have the problem fixed) a damaged O ring gasket. However they are keeping it for a few more days for testing. There may be more to this story...I will keep you updated.
