There seemed to be some other issues with the synchronizers in my car being unusually ineffective (not totally). This may or may not be related, occasionally the clutch plate would engage a moment after releasing the pedal (in a normal manner). When downshifting this would sometimes result in a violent deceleration, much like dropping the clutch (but into too low a gear). The worst time (travelling at around 50 km/h), I shifted down into third rev-matching as normal. However, it caused the front tires to skid and the guy behind me had to take evasive action (sounds cooler than swerving and slamming on the brakes).
