CarComplaints.com Seal Of Avoid Like The Plague

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Pontiac G6 has major problems with two areas fairly critical to the act of driving... steering & safety.

The 2006 G6 has a major defect trend with electronic power-assisted steering failure. The power steering cuts out while driving, making it extremely difficult to steer. G6 owners typically report spending $600 - $1,200+ to fix the problem, replacing either the entire steering column or the power assist motor.

In March 2010, GM recalled 1.3 million vehicles for this exact problem "...after receiving 1,100 complaints of power steering failures." However the 2006 G6 wasn't included in that recall.

In July 2010, GM issued a "Special Coverage Adjustment" — TSB #10183 — covering "certain" (not all) 2005, 2006 & 2008 Pontiac G6's for this power steering issue, up to 10 years/100k miles. However a large number of 2006 G6 owners have reported they were not covered by this campaign, based on VIN#.

As of late 2013 the NHTSA had well over 700 steering complaints on file for the 2006 G6, with 21 crashes & 12 injuries. The NHTSA closed their initial investigation in 2007, having determined that losing your power steering going over 15-20 mph isn't a big deal & that most crashes occurred at slow speeds, so not a safety risk. Ridiculous? Yep, we think so too.

The 2006 G6 also has an expensive problem with "popping" or "clunking" noises when turning, & that issue extends to newer model years as well.

Factor in the 2006 Pontiac G6's poor side impact protection & you end up with a vehicle you should steer clear of.

This sh*tty car of mine has been nothing but trouble since i bought this car from car world located in Winnipeg. Big mistake right away! This has got to be one of the worst places to buy a car, but since i was a first time newer car buyer i was a complete idiot even getting extended warranty, which turned out to be bogus not covering anything even when they say they would cover struts & mounts.

Everything has gone wrong with this sh*tty car all the way. Now with the motor power sterring is the least of this sh*tty cars problems. The whole thing should be recalled! I cant beleive they would think this car would even pass a safety let alone be owned by anyone. If i could go back i'd make sure all these cars newer or older were all burned that way no one would have to put the money and time ive put in to my shittiest car yet and ive had sh*tty ones before but this one by far has to be the worst!

Nothing but problems interior and out want some advice say the f*ck away from PONTIAC HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CARS !!!!!!! they should all be driven off the side of the world to bad we dont have that part of the world but willig to burn tthem all iny bigg ASS backyard just line them up farlest from my house thanks very much Pontiac for waisting my money and time I cannot stress it enough F*CK YOU !!!!!!!!

When I bought the car I loved the red lights in the interior. Now the lights are fading. The bottom lights had faded while the top where the dashboard is still very bright. The bottom is faded. Actually they came back on a few weeks later bright but one part, the knob for the a/c is still faded.
