The contact owns a 2008 Pontiac G6. The contact, a certified mechanic, called on behalf of the vehicle owner. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the power steering hoses were routed underneath catalytic converter and caused the power steering hoses to melt. The failure caused a loss of power steering and could have caused a fire due to the liquid being able to drip onto the exhaust pipe. The certified mechanic diagnosed that the power steering hoses needed to be re-routed. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer stated that this was a common failure for the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,131.
