I was on the 406 South between 4th Line & Martindale exits when my car went out of control & started jumping and popping. The steering wheel was shot and the car would not drive straight. The car was veering back and forth across 4 lanes jerking and jumping. Could not brake on the 406. I was flying wild at highway speed. I was so scared I would hit/kill people & prayed to not hit anyone.

After it was going out of control for a while, the car magically veered to the right soft shoulder & bashed into the guard rail. I SINCE DISCOVERED THERE'S A RECALL DUE TO FAULTY PARTS IN THE STEERING COLMNM..

By the Grace of God my prayer was answered. No one was hit or hurt & I survived except for shock with shakes & dizziness.

iT IS NOT BEING FIXED UNTIL WE DEAL WITH THE RECALL.

Since we bought the car it has had numerous issues and 3 recalls. This issue is when you turn the wheel hard it makes a popping noise. Eventually I will have it looked it, but I have to deal with one issue at a time and prioritize. It is frustrating....

Ever since bought the car has had a clunk when turning steering and was told that is just how pontiac G6 are.

It has only gotten worse and I think 1 mechanic tried to fix and it didn't and I was told to take to GM to get it checked. This cost over $275 and nothing changed. I don't like the idea that steering could fail but also can't afford people trying everything to make it stop and getting no where. Apparently really not an issue to pontiac

since it has been known since 2005 and although they think 2007 last year for that problem it still is an issue in 2008's. Nice to know if there is ever a recall on steering I'll get reimbursed if my mechanic found/fixed problem,

but what about all the trying until found the issue and taking it to get estimates to figure out?

I have just purchased this vehicle and I have noticed the power steering is now starting to pop and wind as if it could one day randomly go out. In which it has low miles on it an fairly new shouldn't be having this problem. I read on here about the complaints of this happening to others with less miles on it. I feel there should be a recall on this In which of this would happen while my family is in the vehicle causing a crash or something of that nature. Someone is gonna get an ear full!! Rant over just hoping for a recall to solve this problem.

Noticed an intermittent clunking noise when steering, regardless of speed. Looked online and read about intermediate shaft needing lubrication.

Brought into dealership and told that the struts were leaking and to fix the problem would need to be replaced (my extended warranty on the used vehicle had just expired, but GM offered to cover parts but not labor)

I have not had the work done yet. The clunk is annoying, and the car does seem less stable cornering (more body roll) but doesn't appear to be a huge issue, yet at least.

A few days after buying this car my boyfriend and I noticed the clunking noise from the steering column. It mainly happens when at a stop and when you start to go again. The steering column also squeaks when you turn it. I have had it lubricated (nice mechanic did it for free) but the problem returned in days. Have a friend who works in a car shop who says this is a very common problem. I also took it to a bigger dealership who told me it was a "common GM problem" and that I would need to be fixing it every so often. I was told to replace the intermediate shaft but that it would most likely break again.

I've had many problems with this car since I purchased it back in 2009. However, yesterday while I was driving on the highway it sounded as if my passenger side floor board fell through it was the loudest thump ever; all of a sudden when I turned it started making clicking noises...I took it to my dealership this morning bright and early and they advised me my struts were leaking, my ball joint component was busted, my transmission fluid needed to be changed, and I needed an alignment. All of these were fixed last year and I only drive on highways...Needless to say this car is a POS and the total damage it did to my wallet was $1,130.00. In total I've had the car for 3 years it's about cost me $5K. NOT WORTH IT.

This is ridiculous that there would be such an obvious problem that is not being fixed. This is my first car I've bought and paid for myself and a week after I purchase it this popping starts in the steering. My guess is that the previous owners knew and just had it greased recently before I test drove it because it definitely didn't do that when I drove it. I've filed a complaint with the NHTSA and will be seeing what I can do to at least delay it.

I'm not a mechanic so I am only guessing at the problem. This roaring could be a bearing, constant-velocity joint, maybe the differential itself. This car has really been a lemon since I got it. If it were not for me being unemployed, I would have replaced it already. Thanks GM.

About a month after I bought this used 2008 g6 I had to bring it in to the service dept to get some part in the steering greased. The mechanic told me that this was a very common problem and I would have to deal with this again. I was in the 30000 miles range. It worked for a couple months and now it has started all over and seems way worse. The steering seems tight. No matter which way I turn it sounds like I am breaking something inside the steering column. Horrible. I don't have the money to fix this. Especially knowing pretty much everyone with this vehicle has the same problem. I think GM needs to do something about this. What to do...what to do....

Update from Feb 23, 2012: Filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as well as called Pontiac/GM. The lady there said that if enough people filed complaints with NHTSA that would be how a recall would be ordered. So file complaints!!! Pontiac lady said to go to a dealership that services Pontiacs to have them diagnose the problem so she can put that into my 'case.' Of course, the intermediate steering shaft is the problem. The mechanic decided to lube it up again. The clunking stopped, but I still have a very annoying squeaky steering wheel. The slightest movement and it's squeaking. I've tried calling the Pontiac/GM lady today and haven't heard back. Not sure where to go from here.

We purchased our 2008 Pontiac G6 May 2010. 1st it started that the steering is incredibly tight. Almost too tight! Next, my turn signal wouldn't turn off automatically, then a whining/grinding noise started coming from the steering wheel joint. Now, the steering is thumping randomly and I am REALLY frustrated with this whole steering column issue!! I want it fixed. Any ideas?

I bought the car from the dealership a few days prior to hearing the noise. As I was driving to work turning left, I heard this popping sound. I "googled" it as soon as I got to work and clearly I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. The dealership I bought from said they'd grease something to make it stop, but it's clearly a temporary solution after reading reviews. My question is... if I get the Intermediate drive shaft replaced, do they go out often? Also, if we do the grease solution, does it really work or does it cause more damage to my vehicle?
