It makes no sense to me why only some years have been recalled for a problem and other years haven't but they are having the same issues. The power steering going out sucks! It's hard to drive! The shop I took my car to charged me a chunk to tell me it would cost a large amount to fix it. I have no power steering at all and the steering wheel jiggles when it's idle and even when I'm driving it! I was told it wouldn't hurt my car to drive it as is so I am doing so while working on saving $$ to have it fixed.

It seems this is a wide spread problem though and needs to be looked at and taken care of!

G6 2.4L

The problem start back in June 2013 when my 2010 Pontiac G6 started flashing a trouble code in the DIC message screen. The problem first started as an annoying issue the code would say CHECK POWER STEERING SERVICE ESC and the ESC off indicator would light up. This would happen on start up and for months all I would do is turn the key off and restart the car and it went away and the car worked fine. This would pop up sporadically sometimes multiple weeks without out a problem.

Then back in November 2013 the problem remained exactly the same but it would not reset unless I removed the key from the ignition then reinsert the key and it would start and the car would again work fine. However, in December 2013 as I was traveling 70mph down the interstate with the radio cranked up and did not hear the alert of the trouble code (which never happened while driving only when starting). I went to pass a car and my car did not respond to the steering. I immediately grabbed the wheel with both hands and with everything I had I steered the car and got pulled over to safety on the side off the road. I was happy this didn't happen just 3 miles further down the road as I would have had to negotiate a set of curves that I'm almost certain would have required more steering wheel rotation and most likely would have resulted in an accident. I was very surprised by the amount of power and upper body strength needed to steer the car.

The car has been sitting in storage since as I try to determine what to do with it. I went to TWO local GM/Pontiac dealers and was told the issue is a common one on earlier model G6s and there is a GM recall/service bulletin on earlier models but not the 2010. They went as far as to explain it was the same equipment used on the 2010 model but did not have a recall/service bulletin on the 2010. I am very disappointed. I have been a dedicated GM owner for my entire life and cannot believe I'm considering a different brand.

My 2010 G6 did the same thing as all the other models on the recalled list. Power steering would kick off at random times, you never knew when it was going to happen. Even when it was working it would jerk my wheel to the left. I'm surprised I didn't have an accident, I came close several times though. My steering column had to be replaced. Luckily for me I took my car into the shop right away.

I just don't understand why 2010 G5's, 2010 Cobalt's and several other years of the G6 including the 2009 are included in the recall but not the 2010 G6. REALLY GM?? I'm glad that they are at least stepping forward and recalling this on SOME models because it is very dangerous BUT they need to recall any model that may have this issue.

While on her way home from picking my son up from school my wife was driving at approximately 35 mph when she heard a "dinging" noise from the dashboard. 3 indications came up on the LED display, "POWER STEERING, SERVICE ESC, and ESC OFF." The power steering system then shut off completely almost causing her to lose control of the car. This is a serious safety hazard reported by many, many G5, G6 and G8 owners with model years between 2005 and 2010 in particular. Why certain models/years have been recalled and not all of them is beyond me. They all use pretty much the same EPS. I've already filed a complaint with the NHTSA about this as well and urge anyone else who has this issue to do the same.

As you all know there were recalls on previous years on the Pontiac G6 models concerning power steering issues.well I purchase a 2010 G6 and I was driving down the road.stop at a red light my steering wheel went to rocking back and forth, my power steering light came on,my wheel would not turn.I turned the car off and the wheel turned but even after that, my wheel still rocked backed and forth when I came to a complete stop.I took it to a GM,Pontiac Dealer.there diagnose was vague. They Needed more time to look at the car.ask for a estimate they told us they need to work it up and call us back later that evening right before closing stated a ridiculous amount to have it fixed.I call the GM company in Detroit Mich. Spoke with a company representative.made him aware of the problem I was having.unfortunately there is no recall on this year.but it need to be. It is not my fault the GM company made a faulty power steering.what will happen if I go out with the car and the power steering goes out and have a major accident.I have pictures of my dash board with the power steering light on and a video with the wheel rocking back an forth.just in case something major Happens.

Update from Apr 10, 2012: Thanks to the almighty God.my car was fixed by General Motors in Detriot Mich.I called and explain to the representatives and the got right on it.Thanks again
