During a routine oil change, I removed the oil filter and heard a snap and found a plastic piece inside the filter. I couldn’t figure out where it came from so I inserted a new filter and replaced the cap. I later came to learn that the oil by-pass value in the top of the center cage had broken. This allowed oil to by-pass the filter for a good 7,000km of driving. I eventually suffered a complete failure of the oil filter adapter housing which led me to learn about this issue. It blows me away that Chrysler would use such a finicky plastic part as a bypass valve.
