This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Fuel pump sensor is no longer working. Truck has 95K miles on it and hasn't been working for the past 500 miles or so. Check engine light has come on and also my fuel gauge comes on and off constantly. I was driving home from grocery store and check engine light came on. Checked at local auto store and said I had a fuel pump that had gone bad.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after refueling the fuel tank to the full level, the check engine warning light and fuel system warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel gauge read empty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sensor located inside the fuel tank was defective and the fuel tank needed to be replaced to fix the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
Last year they did an emissions update on my truck. Since then there is terrible accelerator pedal lag. I already had a dozen or more close calls when trying to pull into traffic. It takes literally 2-3 seconds after I press the accelerator for the truck to start moving. It makes driving the truck dangerous in high traffic areas.
At approximately 60,000 miles the fuel gage became erratic and the check engine light came on and has been on since. The trouble message system indicates a fuel level sensor fail. I researched this issue and a lot of other Ram owners indicate this problem. It is an expensive repair requiring the bed to be removed (cost to repair near $1000). This is also a safety issue due to potentially running out of gas while traveling unless the owner is diligent about tracking mileage and filling up each time the milage reaches 275 miles.
2014 Ram pickup with 68K miles. Driving with 3/4 tank of gas on a freeway at 65 mph and the fuel gauge went to E and the check engine light came on. Then a fuel level sensor fail warning popped up. Called dealership, said it was a known problem and they replace a lot of these a month, ballparked cost to be around $1,000. Spoke to several local mechanics that said the exact same thing, known problem with the sensor that requires the tank to be dropped to fix. When tank is full, truck functions fine. Once tank drops to approx. 3/4 of a tank, everything comes back (check engine light, fuel level sensor fail). Chrysler cannot be putting inferior parts on their vehicles and expect consumers to pay for their greed.
Fuel sensor failure at approximately 62,000 miles. At the time of occurrence the vehicle was in motion on a city street traveling at approximately 30 mph after completion of a turn. After research it was discovered to be a common problem in 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. On the date of 2/17/2020 the vehicle was taken to the dealer from which it was bought and problem was explained, dealer advised a $600+ charge to repair said densor
Fuel sensor fail occurs when tank gets to halfway point; once it fails the tank appears to be empty and a check engine light comes on. Me, along with thousands of other drivers experience this. My vehicle started experiencing this with only 50,000 miles, this shouldn't be happening and this is a defective unit. A failure such as this can cause headaches to drivers by giving them a false sense of what is actually being presented to them on their instrument panel.
Fuel sensor has an error and reads empty when fuel level is less than 3/4 of a tank. The reading is correct between 3/4 and full but once the level drops below 3/4 it says fuel sensor fail and then reads empty.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving, the fuel tank showed empty, even while the fuel tank was full. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was inoperable. The fuel sensor failed which recorded the fuel level as empty. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,500.
While driving through West Virginia, pulling my sailboat, I got a "check engine" light; as I was coming up to the beckley service area, I decided to stop, find an auto parts store and get the code read. Just as I was entering the service area, I lost power, simultaneously having the dashboard flash a "tps sensor" warning, as I descended into the rest area, I realized that I had also lost my brakes (but not the trailer brakes) and then, while coasting into the parking lot, a wv turnpike pu pulled alongside with the driver gesticulating at me, yelling that I needed to get out of my truck, it was on fire. Immediately upon stopping, the front end became engulfed in flames, ultimately burning completely up.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle fuel sender unit failed to indicate the fuel level in the vehicle as the check engine warning light illuminated. The dealer (clovis Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram395 West herndon ave, clovis, ca 93612 (888) 696-0723) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
My vehicle lost signal from the fuel level sensor in the gas tank. The sensor now only works when the tank is between full and 3/4 full. It is now unsafe to drive as you don't know how far you can travel before running out of fuel. This is a known issue with this type of vehicle. People could become stranded in a desolate area or under adverse weather conditions and not be able to get help.
Error code P0463: Fuel level sensor circuit high input, this means my fuel gauge is experiencing failures and I can not accurately determine how much fuel is in the vehicle. Doing a quick google search, this appears to be a very common issue with the 2014 Ram 1500 5.7L. I'm at roughly 68500 mile on my truck so the issue is also out of warranty.
At about 49,000 miles the "check engine" light came on. After driving for several days the light would turn off on its own while the engine was off. I thought that it may been the gas cap, so I replaced it. Then, while driving, the "check engine" light turned on again, intermittently while driving. I had it checked by O' reillys and they said it was the fuel system, PO463=2 6391451. When I turned on the engine, the check engine light was not on. After several weeks I noticed that when my gas was less than 3/4 full the check engine light turned on again, while driving. My gas gauge and mile range dropped to zero. When I filled the gas tank the gauge went back to full with the number of mile range. Again, when the gas was about 3/4, the gauge dropped off. The check engine light has now remained on constantly.
2014 ecodiesel received an update / reprogramming of engine control unit (ECU) and now has serious drivability issues, especially when cold. Throttle response is delayed and, if trying to pull into traffic, is dangerous due to the delay in throttle response. In addition to drivability issues, the fuel mileage has decreased significantly, probably 20%.
