problem #2

Issue occurred 4 times. Twice in my garage, once in the middle of a busy intersection and once on I-75 in Atlanta during rush hour. Engine shut off, got three warnings (Service Power Steering, Service Brakes, and Engine Overheated). BTW - the engine overheated was showing up even in my garage when the engine had not been run for more than 12 hours.

My mechanic diagnosed issue and applied a workaround that at least got it cranked. The mechanic was honest and stated that it might last 5 days or 5 years, no guarantee. He showed me the issue is with the circuit board losing contact and the fix was to turn the engine off, remove three relays, press down at a certain spot between the relays with a hard object (i.e. - knife or screwdriver), turn the key to on, replace the relays in reverse order and try to crank the engine. Imagine doing that safely on an interstate.

The REAL problem is that this defective part is on national back order until November 7th, 2019. Even the parts manager at the RAM dealership could not believe it. So RAM owners with this issue are supposed to park the truck for a few months until the part is available????

The parts manager did a multi-state search and found 1 in stock. I called, purchased and had it shipped. My mechanic installed it and I am back on the road. I am just not quite as confident with the truck as I was before.

Truck stalled in the middle of an intersection. Good Samaritan came along and knew what the problem was and said that wrapping a wire around the TIPM bolt would get it going. He was right. The problem is that while the truck is still under warranty, Dodge refuses to fix the issue stating that the truck has been "modified" and the warranty has been voided. I was told that if we took off the wire, it would put the truck back in factory condition and they would fix it under the warranty. The truck has been taken to the Dodge repair shop twice and they refuse to fix it. The battery light has come on several times while driving the vehicle, because the wire occasionally becomes loose. This has happened on dangerous roads such as a very congested freeway. We do not feel that we should pay Dodge $600 to have this defect fixed. The wire that keeps the truck going has not been permanently installed. It is only twisted around the bolt. I don't see that as being a modification. If the wire isn't on the bolt, the truck won't run. This is a very dangerous situation in my mind. I did read where the NHTSA denied a petition to resolve this problem in 2015 trucks. We don't know what to do at this point.
