This model is a BAD little beast off the factory and dealer lot. The OEM brake rotors wear too fast under normal driving conditions. By comparison, the rotors are the same as the 2015 Legacy and I have only had to replace these once in 5 years with OEM! The Forester OEM rotors by contrast have been replaced every 16 months! This is perhaps THE WORST model year for this Forester not just for the rotors but the engine head gaskets, manual transmission, clutch and drive shaft.

I took my car for an oil change and the technician told and showed me that the rear brake pads needed replacement and there was rust where there should not be...and the front pads were bad but not as bad as the rear. The thing that bothers me along with a car with such LOW mileage having such a problem.....never ever had to replace brake pads on any of my cars.....but I brought this vehicle to Balise Subaru in July for three ( 3 ) recalls and the mileage was 20,525 miles. One was for rear seat belt replacement, ECM reprogram and Brake pipe corrosion inspection and rust proofing. Why did no one there tell me that there was a problem with the brake pads....they had to have noticed.

I have had brake issues with this Subaru since 10-25-2011. There have been a total of 9 rotors replaced, 7 calipers and 6 sets of brake pads replaced since that date. Some type of brake problem occurs about every 5-6 months. Usually I smell a burning odor and the rims are so hot that you can't put your hand on it. All four wheels are involved. I've had spent about $3000.00 on parts and labor to fix these brakes. The cost would have been more, but my son did most of the labor. Our local garage has worked on them four times. I notified Subaru, but they refused to compensate me because the work was not done at a Subaru dealer. I'm a retired older woman and can't afford to have the work done at a dealer. My son thinks that not enough air is able to circulate because of the steel rims. Unfortunately, I think that I have a "lemon"! My solution to this mess is "trade it" and I intend to do that this week!!!
