The fix engine light started going on intermittently starting in 8/2025. The mechanic cleared it and said it was fine. This happened multiple times. 6/23/2026 the car started stalling at stop signs. Mechanic said to take it to the dealer as it was electrical. The Glendale Subaru dealer came back with over $17,000 worth of repairs recommended -- transmission, axle, fluid leaks etc. They did not even look at the electrical portion. The mechanic said they were over recommending -- take it to another dealer and have them diagnose the ECM (electronic control module). The light was off and seemed driveable and then the car would not accelerate going up the sepulveda pass on the 405 -- very terrifying.

I had the car towed to the Sherman Oaks subaru dealer who couldn't get the light to go back on and told me to drive it till it came back on. I had the car towed back and as soon as I sat in it - the light went back on. Had it towed again. The dealer could not diagnose the problem -- they could only maybe diagnose it if I paid an additional $750 on top of the $250 I already paid them to diagnose the ECM as the light was intermittent and they can't diagnose when the light is not on. The problem was never fixed. Sold it to Carmax who said there was an engine or transmission problem. It only had 106,000 miles after 10 years and it no longer felt safe. SOOOOOOO frustrating and expensive! The car had the transmission replaced at 3 years 33,000 miles.
