A "pain in the ass" as you say, but also potentially dangerous. When trying to maneuver in a parking lot, the car lurches when whenever you pass the dead spot. Quick jerk of acceleration. IN tight spaces with people around it leads to close calls. I'm told that this is a normal situation for CVT Subarus.
