My head light would periodically go out. I first noticed it when I traveled out of state for labor day last year. I went to help my sister on the side of the road. I saw my light was out on the right side. It was night time and I had about 20 mins before Auto Zone closed. When I got to Auto Zone my light was back on. I thought it to be a freak accident so I went along about my business. Now this was in South Carolina and those roads are dark in the country. I had no issues until recently I started noticing bulb was out. I got pulled over actually and the cop told me. When I turned my lights off and back on then it came back on. I was like okay. So I thought maybe the bulb was going bad.
Went by Autozone and they told me my bulb was like $100 alone because it was HID. I don’t use my car all the time so I was okay for awhile. I looked on Amazon the official Phillips light bulb went for $44. So I got two of those. I got on this site and read all the complaints and how people went to the dealer and got screwed. Some over $600. Being one who works in the field of service I investigated. Come to find out each one of these lights used a “BALLASTâ€. In my field I know eventually the ballast needs to be replaced as well. If they got bad they either burn out bulbs or the bulb just won’t work. They can cost between $70-$99 a piece. I found them on Amazon as well.
Make sure you match up the specs as well. DON’T JUST CHANGE THE BULBS. CHANGE BOTH BALLASTS AS WELL. The Ballast is under the head light. You can either take off the bumper to get to both of them or take of both front tires. I think removing the bumper is the best way. I find it mighty crumby that these dealerships are not doing this or telling you guys about the ballast. They are milking people. It’s a black square box about 4" square. It has one harness wire that attached to the end of your light bulb by twisting it. This will solve the problem.
When starting, the climate controls flashes for 30 seconds or so with no display. Heated seats don’t work. When flashing ends turning the fan on shows the temp set to 75, ac on requiring change. Seats then work. In addition low beams, primarily the right, either don’t always come on or stay on.
