A rock hit the very top windshield and cracked it all the way across in front of the driver in less than 12 hours. I had to replace the windshield at one location and then take it to the dealer to have all these sensors re-calibrated. That was expensive!

Spontaneous windshield crack overnight in garage emanating from the lower edge of window at car upwards and then horizontal. No detectable rock impact. Car is still under warranty at less than 20k miles. Toyota claims this as normal wear and tear and denied claim. Price is outrageous to fix. Only OEM glass followed by a re-calibration of safety sensors.. Windshield is $900+ and re-calibration $400+. This is a design defect. Why not covered under warranty. There is now a class action lawsuit on this issue which I wish to join.

windshield cracked

This is the second time my windshield cracked while parked. I definitely believe there's a design problem for the 2017 Toyota Prius.

The photos on this website look exactly like what happened to my 2017 Prius. A huge crack appeared overnight, starting at the lower right side and spreading across two-thirds of the windshield. I just learned that a friend of mine at work has already replaced the windshield on her new Prius twice. Now it's happened to me!

This is unacceptable. I've owned countless cars, including a Toyota Matrix, and have never had a windshield crack unexpectedly like this. I have contacted Cafferty, Clobes, Meriwether & Sprengel, the law firm handling the class action lawsuit on this issue, through their website: https://www.caffertyclobes.com, to let them know I would like to be a witness/plaintiff in the case. Others may wish to do the same.

This is my 5th Prius since 2004. Never had a problem with the windshield cracking until this one, a 2017 Prius. At 3000 miles a crack appeared on the passenger side. At 4000 miles a crack appeared on the drivers side. The 2 cracks grew until they were almost touching before I got the windshield replaced. I complained to Toyota, saying the windshield had to be defective but they wouldn't agree to pay to replace it for me. Got the story that if something hit the windshield or there was a chip of any size it would not be covered under warranty.

The glass company I used said they could only get the windshield from Toyota because of the sensors in it and it was over $800. I said I didn't like the sensors anyway and would prefer a windshield without them. I was told by the glass company that they were not allowed to do that as it was a safety issue. I kept complaining to Toyota and eventually they gave me a credit of $400 to be used at any Toyota dealership, because I was such a loyal customer, not because they were admitting that there windshields were defective.
