The power sliding door could not be operated. Took it to the dealership where they quoted $1200 to fix. The alternative was to cut the power cable cord and slide the door manually. Took the latter option and had the job done for $200.

This seems to be a recurring problem on many Toyota Siennas and Toyota offers a free fix on 2003 - 2007 models but refused to do anything on the 2008 model.

Sienna Xle Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

Cable mechanism failed on my passenger side slider door. This is the door on the curbside of the car, probably had more use that on the driver side.

Dealer service writer said that some parts of the slider mechanism were covered under a service bulletin, but the part that broke in my case was NOT covered, and would cost $1000 to fix including six hours' labor.

I had him cut the cable to the slider, and I am using the door as a manual door, but it is a HUGE problem as my children are having a tough time managing the door on their own, and they are not small, they are teens. That door is a beast...Very disappointed.
