This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The rear hatch struts blew causing the rear hatch to close automatically and forcibly. Luckily, only my husband was under the hatch at the time and could stop it from hurting someone. It would have seriously injured one of our children if they were under the hatch. It happened very suddenly and unexpectedly. There is an existing recall on older Sienna vans to for the exact same issue. The design change does not seem to mitigate against the failure. We also see that other vehicles including other 2011 vans continue to have this problem. We are asking you to contact the company to discuss the recall with them and see if the recall is not mitigating the risk of this failure. I would not want a child (one of the reasons in purchasing a mini-van) get hurt with a hatch collapsing on them.
