steering wheel clock spring breaks

The steering wheel clock spring went bad on a three year old VW Golf Alltrack, with only 51,000 miles. Affected airbag, transmission, auto brake, horn and all steering wheel buttons. Previous VWs were covered on past recall. My request for VW coverage was denied.

I paid $550 to fix even though there has been past recalls on same cars the previous years. Service advisor was familiar with problem and diagnosed accurately Inside the service bay based on past experience in ten seconds.
