The housing of the water pump assembly is made of plastic and leaked through several hairline cracks.

this is a terrible design apart from the fact that the pump is a complicated unit operated via an electric

motor and installed very awkward resulting in a 4 hour repair job not covered by VW.

This car also has a poorly designed panorama roof that is leaking and a class action suit against Volkswagen

in the US has failed.

Over a period of 50 years I owned 6 different VW models and thought this 2017 Sportwagen would be a nice choice but sadly it will be my last choice

Found coolant reservoir empty and a few drips under car during routine check. Refilled and took to VW dealer for repairs. Suspected cracked water pump housing from internet research. Dealer pressure tested and confirmed leak. I was informed this repair was just outside of powertrain warranty, so repair was not covered by VW and I had to pay full cost of repairs. Expressed dissatisfaction, explained this must be a design flaw, and requested the dealer cover this, but I was told to contact corporate VW Customer Service. After several phone calls over several weeks with VW Customer Service, they offered 1/2 of replacement water pump/t-stat housing part cost of $225, instead of full repair cost of $1350. Decided this was unacceptable, and I am now pursuing a new class action lawsuit for my model.
