Missing Felt Strips Cause Mercedes to Recall 4,700 Vehicles
Mercedes-Benz recalls vehicles with rear seat belts that may not fasten.

— Mercedes-Benz is recalling 4,700 vehicles to repair problems associated with the seat belt latch plates, the parts that insert into the buckles.

Mercedes says the recall affects these vehicles.

  • 2016-2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC300
  • 2016-2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 4Matic
  • 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC350e
  • 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC63 AMG 4Matic
  • 2017-2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC43 AMG 4Matic

Mercedes launched an investigation in February based on an inquiry by U.S. safety regulators concerning two complaints about the seat belts.

The automaker recalled about 122,000 vehicles in March 2018, but in September 2018 more vehicles were identified that need repairs.

Mercedes found problems with the c-pillar paneling that wasn't made to specifications and can cause the outboard seat belt latch plates failures to retract into the areas between the c-pillar paneling and the rear paneling.

An occupant won't be able to latch their seat belt and won't have any warning until they face the problem.

The recall is expected to begin October 31, 2018. Mercedes dealers will install felt strips between the c-pillars and the rear side paneling.

Concerned owners may call the automaker at 800-367-6372.
