CarComplaints.com Notes: Honda redesigned the CR-V for the 2007 model year to kick off the 3rd-generation of the popular SUV. Unfortunately that redesign came with malfunctioning door locksand shoddy tires that wear out fast.
Whining noise accelerating after driving for one hour at interstate speeds:
Started about two months ago and only happened once, then again about a month later and now more often. I drive one hour on the interstate to work at a constant 70 mph. When I get off the interstate, the car makes a high pitch whine as you accelerate. It shifts through the gear changes, but the sound is definitely wrong. I also notice pulling into my parking space there is an odd growling noise. I can rev the engine parked and the whine continues. Shut off the car, let it sit for an hour and the noise is gone. Drive for an hour at high speeds and it comes back when you reduce speed. I had the transmission fluid changed and did not help. It only happens if you drive for one hour at high speeds. I can drive around town all day and it never happens.
I am going to have to leave work early and drive straight to the mechanic to have them hear this since it will not do it unless the car has driven at high speeds for one hour.
Update from Oct 7, 2014: The problem was caused by low power steering fluid level. Once the fluid was added to proper level, no more high pitch sound. Upsetting that the Honda dealership nor my mechanic bothered to check the fluid level.
