I bought my Honda CRV brand new 2010. By the time the car was 2 year old, with 10,000 miles, there was a grinding noise when I would start the car. The grinding noise lasts about 2 seconds. It has been into a Honda dealership several times. I was told Honda is working on a "fix" and that the problem would be addressed when the engineering department had the issue figured out. One year later (but still under warranty), the grinding noise is louder and longer than before, and happens almost every time I start the car. Upon doing some research, I learned that Honda has been installing the defective vtc actuator since 2008, in Accord. The defective actuator was also installed in 2012-2014 CRV's. it appears that Honda continued to use the defective actuator since 2008, yet customers are being told that a "fix" is in the works, 7 years later. American Honda has advised Honda service departments to not replace the actuator as it is likely that the replacement actuator will present the same grinding noise. A regional case manager also assured me that a "fix" was in the works but did not comment when I pointed out that Honda continued to use a defective part from 2008-2014. Honda repeatedly emphasizes that this is not a safety or performance issue, to which I have replied that is likely the reason it has been 7 years with no fix -- it is a low priority and Honda chooses to direct its engineering resources elsewhere. The contact owns a 2010 Honda CR-V. after the contact exited the vehicle and locked the doors, the vehicle would inadvertently restart. The contact stated that the vehicle started by itself four times in the last couple of weeks. The contact called Ohio valley Honda (532 N 3rd St, steubenville, oh 43952, (740) 283-3435) and was informed that diagnostic testing was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

I had excessive oil consumption and the pistons were replaced under the extended warranty from Honda at approximately 117000 miles. I drove the vehichle and the oil lite came on; stopped at a repair station and had to add 2 qts oil. Went to Honda again to start oil consumption test (which they say losing a qt of oil every 1000 miles is ''normal' which I so disagree with. The engine lite came on, took to Honda and they said the catalyc converter needs to be replaced (with only 120000 miles now). I found other sites/blogs that show other Honda owners having same problem with cat converter/oil consumption. I beliee the excessive oil consumption is contributing to the failure of the cataylic converter/emmissions problem and the consumer/myself shoudl not have pay this exorbainate repair cost (over $2600 per Honda dealer). I have 2007 CRV with approx 145000 miles and have had no oil consumption or catalyic converter issue which concerns me as I was looking to trade in the 2007 and pass the 2010 CRV to my daughter and acquire a new Honda. But, it is unacceptable that a newere CRV (2010) has such major problems that it is not a quality car to pass on to my daughtr to drive and I am not sure if I get another Honda if I will hae defects and excessive out of pocket costs. I wanted my Honda's to last with minimum repairs that are exorbinet costs.

2010 Honda CRV has excessive oil consumption problem leading to an engine stall on 9/28/17 while driving approx. 30mph on a city street. There was no prior warning of an oil level problem until the oil pressure light came on when the car stalled out. The oil had been changed in the car 2 months prior and was routinely changed approx. Every 4K miles.. the vehicle had also been having a grinding noise when starting up cold each day. This has been determined to be a vtc actuator problem. The excessive oil burning has now also caused an emissions problem (catalytic converter) and the car will not pass state inspection. There are numerous complaints including litigation pertaining to the excessive oil issue and the vtc actuator defect. There needs to be an investigation into whether vehicle crashes/injuries/fatalities involving the affected Honda vehicles are caused by engine stalls or loss or power and furthermore if the excessive oil consumption problem is the cause. If the vtc actuator is causing or contributing to the problem, there needs to be a recall. Also, does excessive oil burning increase the risk of engine fires in these vehicles" is excessive oil burning causing emissions system failures and polluting the environment" a vehicle that burns 4-5 quarts of oil between 5K mile oil changes is not safe to drive for anybody but especially unsafe for the elderly and young drivers. The defect will cause engine performance problems leading to car crashes, engine fires and violates emissions standards.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda CR-V. while driving approximately 60 mph, several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact noticed smoke under the hood and immediately pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and called aaa road service. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the radiator, compressor, and belt. The contact drove the vehicle home, but the vehicle failed to start the following day. The battery was replaced by aaa road service. Seven days later, while driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and towed to the contact's residence. The dealer was contacted (ocean Honda in santa cruz, ca, 831-661-8693) and the technician advised the contact to trade in the vehicle for a new one. The contact purchased a new vehicle instead. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

This vehicle started burning oil early in 2017. It burns between 1.8 and.66 quarts per 1000 miles (based on Honda's own test, attached). Honda told us this is "normal" and that we should replenish the oil every time we fill the gas tank. This is unacceptable. No vehicle should "burn" oil at that rate. It is both a liability to the owner and a detriment to the environment. Honda knows there is a problem (recall) and should fix it.

Acceleration. My 2010 Honda CRV loses power and stalls. It will not accelerate at times. I am afraid to pull out onto the road. I bought it two months ago. It only has 110,000 on it. I took it to a certified Honda dealer and they said it was the timing chain. They also said there were a lot of other parts that I would need to replace with the timing chain. It totaled almost $2000. It seems like a lot of other people are having this problem. I have searched the internet and there are a lot of others. Why hasn't Honda recalled this problem. Please help!

The vehicle had a noise after I put 1000 miles and took it to Honda service in danbury Honda in ct, they told me to bring it back on 1000 miles due to engine was burning oil. Brought it back twice with the same result, burning oil. Customer service sent documents and proof to Honda for an approval to fix the problem, which is well known that the 2010 CRV are burning oil in excess and I am waiting over a week for a response and nobody called me, I called them today and according to them, they havent heard from Honda. I wanted to let you know about this problem that is well known in their internal circle, I asked someone from another Honda service center and told me the same thing, and Honda knows but they will make it difficult to admited. I am waiting for a possitive answer if not, I will never buy a Honda again.

In August of 2015 Honda issued a warranty extension notification for sticking piston rings resulting in high engine oil consumption. In 2015 I began to add oil in-between required oil changes and reported the condition to manchester Honda in July. The rate is approximately 1qt/2,500 miles. Honda agrees this is 'abnormal' but that the rate does not meet the 'excessive' consumption required to be covered under the warranty extension notification. That rate is not documented anywhere and reported to be 1qt/1,000 miles. For 'customer satisfaction' Honda has agreed to fix the problem charging me $1,000. I object to this offer as I paid for a normal car and see no reason to pay addition money to make the car normal - I paid for and expect a normal car. The word argument - abnormal vs. Excessive - Honda has forwarded does not impress me. The warranty notification states "... high engine oil consumption", that is exactly what I am experiencing. Whether it is abnormal or excessive is a philosophical discussion Honda can have internally. The facts: My car is exhibiting high engine oil consumption; Honda agrees the consumption is abnormal and in 2015 issued a warranty extension notification acknowledging the 2010 CR-V models potentially have a sticking piston ring resulting in high oil consumption. Calling an offer to pay a second time for the normal car I purchased does not, in my mind, amount to customer satisfaction. Together the terminology excuse Honda has presented, the hollow customer satisfaction offer and lack of support from the entire Honda service team adds to my anger and frustration. My request is to have Honda perform whatever repairs necessary to yield the product I purchased - a normal car that does not exhibit high engine oil consumption.

I had taken my car to my local Honda dealership in 2015 to check for oil leak since the oil light would come on between oil changes. They did not find any leaks and said the car was working as normal. I experienced the problem again in 2016 2 months after an oil change the light came on again. I goggled it and found that my car was subject to an extended warranty for the issue until 8 years or 125K miles. I contacted my new dealership and took my car in. My advisor stated that an oil consumption test would need to be done which consisted of and oil change and bringing it back in 1000 miles later to see more than 1 quart of oil had been burned. Since I would be over the extended warranty period at the end of the test I contacted Honda directly to make sure it would be covered. I spoke with rebecca who assured me that since I had started the test before the warranty period was over I would be fully covered. I took the car back at 1000 miles and that said there was no issue. In Jan 2017 my oil light came on again. I took the car back to the dealership and they discovered it was burning more oil than 1 quart per 1000 miles. My car now had 127653 miles. Honda is now refusing to fix the issue under the extended warranty. I spoke with the representative from american Honda Corp and she stated that even though I was told it would be covered since the process was started before the extended warranty expired that information was not correct and she would give a coaching to the representative that noted my file.

The first time we became aware of any issue was around 3/3/16 (64224mi) when we started hearing engine/muffler noise and we mentioned it when we brought car in for airbag replacement. By 7/21/16 (67233mi) we were hearing very strong motor noises and the car began to drive very rough. When we took it in they advised us we were 3qts low. From the last oil change at 60742mi that amounts to 1.0qt/2164mi. They told us we needed to do an oil consumption test. On 8/10/16 (67942mi) we were already 1qt low after only 500mi and they asked us to do an oil change when we were only at 40% according to the "oil life" indicator. By 12/2/16 when we finished the oil consumption test and they took several weeks to get back with us, they said our oil consumption was "within normal limits" according to the factory. On 1/9/17 (73743mi) we requested Honda check our oil and sure enough it was down 1.8qts after 2790mi. That's 1.0qts/1500mi. They suggested we do another oil consumption test. Clearly, Honda has set convenient "normal limits" in order to delay repairs that could mitigate future engine issues after our warranty (or extended warranty) has expired. We have requested that they fix this problem once and for all so we do not have to be guessing as to when we need to add oil and most importantly because it has most definitely lowered the resale value of our car and made it much harder to sell. The number one reason we purchased this car was for it's high resale value which it can no longer live up to.

The vehicle was purchased new Honda CR-V 2010 and has been services throught same place purchased since day one. The complaint of a "metal noise" dropping when reversing. I have replaced the tires, brakes, calipers, drums and rotars as they siezed, wore unevenly and "oxidized(?). I have been told the tires have an impression on them as the vehicle must have been not used for a period of time. The care is used daily. Some excused provided have been amazing. Main point is that the transmission/metal noise continued while I drove the car or when my cousin was going to use it (but declined when he heard the noise) when the care goes in for servicing "noise could not be duplicated" I would leave and get home unstatisfied and due to responsibilities in life make it difficult to just go right back out to resolve the issue. It got to the point that I would take the vehicle out for test ride. Finally when I duplicated the noise. Repeatedly/annually complained and was not found until having the vehicle for over a month (gsh did provide loaner) I have returned to the service center since the car has been there, but continued to leave my car there. Now they want me to pay the deductible ($100) an additional fee for new transmission of $1510. This is a problem I had documented on every service since I purchased the vehicle.. when in reverse and proceed to reverse the metalic noise drops but the car still goes in motion. There were two times it did it in drive. Every service visit was routine and sceduled; recommended services were done on the spot, not when I would return for next oil change.. I am just disheartened and saddened that they have taken advantage of this female customer.... I have been made to feel that this would not have happen to a male customer.

Service documentation has been made regarding a complainant of a metal noise dropping from the vehicle as of Nov 2010 and basically every year to follow. I did purchased the vehicle new. However, now I have just been advised it is an internal issue in the transmission and will be responsible to pay $1600. It seemed that most costly issues really began to surface after the 5 year warrantee. However it seemed that nothing is wrong, but after a third return and taking the vehicle out and reproducing the noise/problem I have complained of since my original purchase no has been "discovered". I have always done the recommended services on the vehicle at the time I have maintained its service since it has been purchased with garden state Honda. They have been polite, tried to provide a reason for the noise which were not as I described. A metal clank/drop noise is not the same as the plastic flap rubbing on the tire. I have been engaged to a mechanic and clearly know this was a poor excuse. I do have an extended coverage until April 2017. I have also been provided an excuse that my car tires are wearing unevenly as the car must not have been driven in some time (the tires appear to have that stationary mark). The car is driven daily. It may not be far distances, but that's not a reason for why wearing unevenly.

I purchased this car on 3/26/10 based upon performance ratings boasted by Honda. There have been manufacturers defects from the start. Currently about 118,000 miles. Early on I started hearing pinging sounds under the hood. Honda dealer said I was low on oil, put a quart in, and the sound stopped. He advised to put oil in whenever the sound occurred. This was before my first oil change. I continued to add oil as the sound re-occurred, 2-4 quarts between oil changes. I repeatedly questioned the consumption but no malfunction was found. July of 2011 Honda acknowledged the problem with (tsb#11-033). In November 2011, the dealer did an oil consumption software update. At this time there was no recall. The continual cost for synthetic oil remained and the oil light never came on. An oil consumption recall issued in 2015. The car failed the oil test Honda did required service as per recall protocol. The tech indicated the catalytic converter needs to be replaced but was out of warranty. Honda agreed to pay 50% of the cc repair. I declined since I have no money for this due to unemployment, nor should I put one cent into a car that has been defective from the start. My car was also recalled for takata airbags. Honda provided a rental car for 2.5 months. I picked up the car and now the engine light is on, brakes malfunctioning and compromised cc. It is not safe to drive. I have been driving a car with a substantial defect from the day one. I have spent countless dollars on oil. There have been two recalls. The car is no longer safe or dependable due to cc and brakes. I am concerned about engine longevity. I will never be able to drive this vehicle without being fearful. I feel it is Honda's responsibility to make me whole and provide the type of vehicle I signed up for. Please advise next steps to bring about a resolution in the immediate future.

High engine oil consumption - my car ran out of oil in 2014, the red light came on and I added 4 qts of oil. This was between oil changes with "20% oil life" still indicated in the car. I reported it to Honda and not until they sent me the warranty extension required by the court order did anything happen. Then they (mcgrath Honda elgin il) made me bring the car back 4 times for the oil consumption test. They told me the test would only take 3 trips. Even though it continues to burn oil (1qt per 800-1000 miles) they deny a problem.

I first noticed excessive oil consumption in Dec 2014 when driving across West Texas (speed limits are 80 mph). My oil light went on and the car was making noise when I arrived in tucson. I went to a dealer who said I had run out of oil but he didn't know why. I then went to where I purchesd the car but no reason for excessive oil found. I went to another mechanic- again no reason. In August 2015 Honda sent a letter explaining that 2010 and 2011 Cr-vs had a problem with sticky piston rings that could lead to excessive consumption. I contacted Honda and went through an oil consumption test. Although I documented 1.5 quarts of oil burned in 1700 miles of highway, the average was less than Honda defined as excessive. I feel that this level of consumption is excessive, especially on longer highway drives and I am worrying about damaging the engine. Honda should do the warranty work. My local dealer suggested I continue to do my own oil consumption testing. The warranty is valid until Nov 2017 and for another 35,000 miles.

CR-V 2010 excessive oil consumption. Bought the car new. My husband drives the car to work every day for an hour. We start hearing a cranking noise coming form the engine in the cold mornings. We follow recommendations on oil changes and use synthetic oil. I check the oil regularly and add some when it needs it. I was amaze at how much oil it burn. I have had problems with excessive oil use and check engine light on two (2) dealerships recommended to replace timing belt timing chain tension and cam shaft. 62,000 miles car was driving very bad so I did the repairs $ $1,212.40. The dealership is telling me that's "normal". I have a mini van Toyota with 273,000 miles never chance the timing belt/chain still running. Honda of America saying that burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles is normal. That is unethical. I have done the 1,000 mile oil consumption tests when I went to the dealership and they said that my CRV can burn up to a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and is nothing that they can help me. Now the car start smelling oil and gas when I check the oil level. They send a letter but Honda is not willing to do the repairs.

Engine stalls while driving time to time. It lasts a few minutes. The problem was reported to a dealer after purchasing the car (new). Honda dealers cannot find the cause of the problem. Recently I found a youtube video that shows that it is a common problem in Honda and that the cause is a faulty ignition key part. If it is true, then Honda must recall it to fix the problem. It must be investigated since many Honda cars are reported for the same problem, but Honda seems not to know what the cause of the problem is.

My car engine stalled mostly in ther morning at 50 mph or above. It lasts about a few minutes, and disappears. It happens in the afternoon again. It seems that engine speed and transmission are mismatched. I reported this several times after I purchsed it; dealers updated softwares under factory warantees. The problem has not been fixed. My car has now about 32,000 milies. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the recent recall on engine oil ring problem.
