CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 Honda CR-V has a trend of engine hesitation when accelerating.

Honda has tried to fix this delayed acceleration with a software update, but many owners report it didn't fix the problem.

This defect trend is not quite bad enough yet for us to slap on the "Beware of the Clunker" seal. But it's a concern & definitely something to keep in mind for a test drive.

I live in mn, and only cold air blowers out of the heater vent on the drivers side. This is a known issue by Honda (tsb 14-063), it is a clogged heater core. I have had it fixed 2 times ($120/per time) and it keeps happening. This is a serious issue when it is 20 below and there is no heat in my CRV.

On cold start-ups there is a loud rattle coming from the engine. My CR-V only has 54,000 miles on it and this is ridiculous. I am told it could be the vtc actuator and can only hope that my extended warranty will cover it. Not the quality I expect from Honda at all. Researching this can lead to oil consumption and a stretched timing chain and premature engine failure.

2014 CRV had 'rattle' noise during cold start about a year ago, took it to the Honda dealer and they said there was nothing wrong. Now at 59974 miles and 3 months passed 5 year warranty, the dash warning lights going off and timing chain has to be replaced. Had to spent $2000 to fix it.

Driving at low speed (20-40mph) the car will flutter/shimmy. This is a known issue with Honda America as they have two service bulletins regarding the issue. There are multiple online forums with CR-V owners having the same exact problem with low and high mileage. The dealership performed the first "fix" according to the Honda service bulletin and it was ok for about 2 weeks and now it's back, worse than ever. The second fix according to Honda is a torque converter replacement, which may or may not help the problem.

At cold start-up, the engine rattles loudly for a few seconds, every time now. Defective variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator. Vtc actuator is defective. Over time, this can cause fragmented issues, affecting other integral areas of vehicle operation.

Oil usage is extremely high with no visible leaks, and engine is dry. I am at the point of my oil needing to be changed, and my oil was nearly empty. I have put in 3 qt's in the last 3 weeks. Also, I live in nys, and on cooler days to freezing days, there is a loud grinding rattle that happens when I start my car. I had a 2010 that did the same thing.

My vehicle was stalled in the early morning of July 17, 2019 in a parking lot and towed to a Honda dealership nearby. The mechanic's diagnosis was that the vehicle stall was caused by the shortage of all fuses in the primary fuse box due to leaking oil from the timing chain cover of the engine. The mechanic mentioned that the oil leak occurred for a while so it shorted out the fuses through the incased electrical wires. I think that it definitely is a safety issue because my life could be in a danger if the shortage occurred when I drove this vehicle on the highway. Therefore, I wanted your Agency to raise this safety issue related to Honda CRV to Honda manufacturer and consumers who are currently driving a similar type of the vehicle. I am currently cooperating with a representative from Honda customer service for an investigation of this serious safety issue. Sincerely, (xxxx) P.S. attachment is the repairing statement from curry dealership. Redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). The consumer stated the manufacturer was notified, but declined assistance due to an expired warranty.

The car vibrated during acceleration at 25 and 32mph. The Honda of san marcos, tx dealer updated the software and that fixed the problem. Since many 2014 Honda crvs have this problem, this should be a recall. Honda should reimburse me the $365.15 that they charged me to fix the transmission vibration.

I noticed that the vehicle would skate between 25-30 mph when accelerating. I took it to the closest Honda dealership to have it looked at, hoping it was covered under my warranty. I was told that I had to pay $140 for them to just check my vehicle. Then they called me to tell me that it was caused by a software issue and Honda had created an update, which I would have to pay to receive. That they would also have to flush my transmission fluid as part of this, and that the cost would be $499 with labor and taxes. I then also went ahead and had my oil changed and my brake fluid since it was recommended. Total bill was $703. I then came home and started looking up and it appears that many other people have/had the same issue. Most weren't charged by their dealer for the update and fluid change, which seems to correct the issue. But I was. And I have the silver warranty under fidelity. And it affected my power train, but they co wider it a software issue, not mechanical, so they would not cover it. Honda should not charge for this issue, which was clearly affecting enough people to cause them to have an update available. But why charge for it? it's a malfunction in their software which affected the vehicles performance, and they should have done a recall and provided this for free.

Engine rattles for 2 to 3 seconds on starting the car after a long period (around 8 hours). Contacted Honda, and they want the customer to cover majority of the cost. Honda says the issue is only a nuisance and will not cause engine damage, but will not give this in writing.

Car shakes, jerks, and "judders" between 20 and 40mph under light acceleration. This was diagnosed by a Honda dealership as being the issue addressed in Honda technical service bulletin 15-086, but they will only fix it at their cost if you are still under warranty. Fixing, according to Honda requires replacing the torque converter, updating the PCM, and replacing the transmission fluid. That's a pretty expensive bill for it being their software issue in the first place. Car also make a loud grinding noise on cold starts. Was informed this was an issue with the vtc actuator, but there was no fix for it.

CR-V

  • 58,000 miles
In August 2018 I brought vehicle to privately owned shop that I trust to research a noise coming from the engine bay when starting the vehicle. Mechanic found through inspection/research that timing chain likely needed to be replaced ($1000 job) on 2014 CR-V's. at that time my vehicle was less than 5 years old with less than 60,000 miles, so it was within the power train warrantee period (5yrs/60kmi). The mechanic also found that the engine was leaking quite a bit of oil for such a new car and he said it had a consumption issue. I called Honda in August 2018, and started a case regarding oil consumption and noise related to timing chain. They told me to bring vehicle to Honda dealership to begin oil consumption test and to have noise looked at. I immediately brought the vehicle to lia Honda who told me to wait until oil needed to be changed to start consumption test B/C the oil was recently changed and it would be a waste of new oil. I brought the car into keeler Honda in November of 2018 to complete the oil consumption test when the oil needed to be changed and to have the noise checked out. They changed the oil and couldn't figure out the noise, stating the car was fine. As I drove the car over the next few months the noise got worse. I brought the car to the dealership where I bought the car and they stated I should bring the car back to Honda because it should've been under warrantee and something was definitely wrong. I called Honda manufacturer and referenced my case from Aug of 2018- they agreed to document that my car was covered B/C these issues stem from when it was under warrantee (now has 62kmi). Keeler Honda found a service bulletin to replace vtc actuator related to noise. This was replaced and covered by Honda. The car still has oil consumption issue! 2015 CR-V's were recalled due to oil consumption to replace the engine, but not 2014's? same issue!!!!!

My 2014 Honda CRV with 75,000 miles is in need of a drive shaft. I cannot find a recall on this. Honda is doing nothing about it. My mechanic was informed that there has been trouble with this part on other 2014 models.as a matter of fact the part was backordered! it seems absurd to me that this should happen in 75,000 miles. Can you help me? as you know this will cost me between $2500-$3000!!! of course I will not purchase another Honda vehicle since the customer does not seem to matter to that company]!
