CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

I have owned a total of 3 NEW Honda CRVs... a '99, an '02 and so far since in purchased this '17 vehicle back in March... all I have are problems. including the oil mixing with the gas problem. I have experienced the following problems. the doors have locked automatically WITH the key inside the vehicle (the service guys even checked the timer). it's happened 4 times already at the dealership at the time of a car wash. each time they had to cut a key for it. I have requested to keep the extra keys as proof of the problem. it's happened to me God knows how many times at home. the smaller (vertical) icon buttons do not work anymore... they did before, but not now. I have to click back, back and back again if I want to go from say... GPS to Pandora or some other app that clearly shows up on the screen. when it's much more convenient to just click on the (smaller vertical icon). the screen itself will go completely black while listening to the radio or Pandora, etc. this has even happened when the GPS is on. the screen goes black. it takes the vehicle well over 10 minutes to warm up. the interior light does not come on when I enter the vehicle. the alarm goes off sometimes all on its own. the vehicle no longer chirps when I lock the doors via remote. the lights do not blink anymore when the alarm is set. I've reported ALL these issues to several of the guys at the service desk and all I hear is; "there's a fix coming up soon" or "there's a fix at the end of the month" or it's an apple iPhone vs Honda compatibility issue." frankly, I'm just upset and totally disappointed with Honda for putting out such a crappy vehicle. I have totally lost my love for the CR V. And yes, I have reported all these issues one of the managers on site with absolutely no resolution. I am very frustrated and I really wish I would have not purchased this vehicle. I have an appointment 12/15/2018 at 8am at Continental Honda in Countryside, IL where I purchased the vehicle. let's see what happens.

CR-V EXL 1.5L Turbo

  • CVT transmission
  • 19,500 miles

Instead of beeping one time on exit closing of door then locking doors about 9 seconds later, it will beep 3 times and not lock doors. Doors must be locked with FOB. Does not happen all the time but now about 25% of time. This has happened since day 1 when I bought the car, and I have not been able to detect a rhyme or reason why it happens.

Instead of beeping one time on exit closing of door then locking doors about 9 seconds later, it will beep 3 times and not lock doors. Doors must be locked with FOB. Does not happen all the time but now about 25% of time. Never happened until about two months ago when car was 6 months old. Is now doing it more often than when first started. Have tried staying close to car but seems to have no effect on frequency of failure.
