CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

cracked windshield cracked windshield

I was driving along today, windows slightly down, sun roof open, driving around 40 mph or less and I hear a loud 'pop'. I looked around to see if someone had thrown a firecracker or maybe blew a tire. Nothing out of the ordinary seemed to be amiss and there were only a few other cars around me, so I kept driving. About 15 seconds in, I'm still scanning and that's when I saw (what was then) a small crack. At first I thought - was that there and I just hadn't noticed? But then as I kept darting my eyes up at it - the crack is making a spider line diagonally down from the top center of my windshield, then it splinters into two cracks!!! That's when I realized the loud popping sound I heard was my windshield had cracked FOR NO APPARENT REASON!!! :-/

I literally just bought this vehicle (2017 Honda CR-V, LX) on 5/17. Today's date is 8/6/21. Smh...

I knew the windshield had already been replaced because I took the vehicle in to a Honda dealership for a full inspection before the ink was dry on the purchase paperwork. Honda told me the windshield was an after-market windshield not manufactured by them. Now, I think I know why the windshield was replaced before I came along to buy it.

I started doing some research into this spontaneous windshield cracking, only to learn - this is a common occurrence. There has been several class-action lawsuits settled and/or dismissed because of this very problem (the vehicle's faulty frame design exerting too much pressure on the glass causing it to spontaneously break and/or shatter) and the manufacture reportedly refuses to issue a recall and/or continues to deny coverage claims.

This all happened within the last hour, so I'm not even at the point of being able to talk about what was done to get it fixed.

BUT, THAT'S NOT ALL......

Apparently I can't just have the glass replaced. Because the windshield is fitted with a forward facing camera which connect to the vehicle's advanced safety systems, the camera system have to be recalibrated. That's a cost IN ADDITION TO replacing the actual windshield.

I'm FUMING!!!!!

This crack appeared in my windshield while parked in the garage. there is not a chip or hole or anything that could be filled. I am not able to feel the crack from the inside or from the outside I have been told that my warranty does not cover the cost of the windshield though I purchased the extended warranty. I don't know the cost of a replacement, but I was told when I purchased the warranty that it would be steep.

Glue is come out or rippled near the edge (glass under stress). When using defrost and not moving caused a hairline crack. Request replacement.
