Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

Taken to quirk Jeep in marshfield MA on September 5th issue was fuel pump circuit does not power up in tipm installed relay harness and fuse starts fine now. Cost is $375.68, which I had to put on my credit card. 2. car starts smoking, which terrifies me and my 7 year old son for fear of the Jeep blowing up or catching on fire! so I have to have it towed to quirk by aaa on Thursday October 16th. Quirk says they will help out again a little, but charge is going to be around $400 but won't know until it gets fixed sometime next week and it takes about 2 hours for repair. More time lost from work. 4. November 16th---car will not start. It will not turn over or make any noise. We received 3 recall notices related to the brake booster, the totally integrated power module, and a short in the visor lamp. We called our local dealership and each time we called, they told us they did not have the parts and they would call when they did receive them. They still have not called and the first recall notice was issued more than 6 months ago.

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the push button start was not functioning properly. The failure progressed to the point that the vehicle stalled several times and also would not start. The contact had to tow the vehicle several times due to the intermittent failure. The fuel pump sensor and the service engine sensor illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who replaced the fuel pump, but the failure recurred. The dealer also reset the sensors more than twice and they still illuminated. The dealer suggested an interim fix of filling the fuel halfway. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V530000 (fuel propulsion system); however, the part was not available to repair the vehicle. The contact was also waiting for two other recalls to be performed, but the parts were not available for NHTSA campaign numbers: 14V39100 (visibility) and 14V154000 (service brakes). The contact was waiting for an appointment to remedy all three recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.

Car didn't start as it should have after pressing the start button. After several tries the car eventually started up. I took the car into the dealership and they tested it. It was confirmed that the car fuel pump system is not working correctly and it is related to the recall P54. They are not able repair the car due to nationwide backorder of the part involved. They are not sure if and when the part will become available or when the recall repair items will be come available. They could not comment on the car safety while driving with this condition. Talked to the Chrysler group recall assistance center. The comment "every car is acting differently and they can't advise if it safe to use the car". no further assistance was available neither was any further help offered. I'm using the car for traveling around a 3 hour radius of wyomissing on a weekly basis. Average driven miles per year is 20,000.

I was driving down a freeway at 55 mph when the car suddenly stalled. There is no warning other than the rpms hitting 0. this has happened three times in the past month and is becoming more frequent. When this happened I lost power steering while changing lanes, luckily toward the berm. I was able to put the car in neutral and roll off to the side of the crowded freeway, to a stop. I put the car in park and it started right back up. I was able to drive the rest of the way home making sure I kept an eye on my rpms to determine if the car had stalled again. It happened a second time, but I was ready that time and in a position to get off of the roadway. There is currently a recall for the fuel pump relay, and I did have it fixed at my own cost before the recall came out. Unfortunately, it was fixed with another faulty part since the fixed one has not been developed yet. I bought Jeep for its reliability, safety, and dependability, but I am very afraid to drive my car at this time. I also tow a trailer, that luckily has not been connected when this happened, or this would be a completely different complaint with a much worse ending. Since there is no eta on the recall part, I am not sure what I can do. I am almost to the point of buying another car rather than picking up a rental for an indefinite amount of time. I love my Jeep, but this is a much more serious issue than we are being led to believe.

Chrysler is still not making this part available to dealers so that it can be installed. This part can fail without warning and cause the engine to stall while in motion. My dealer is ready and willing to replace this relay, but it is not yet in production.

In June 2012 I began having issues with my vehicle giving a hard start and stalling. I reported it several times and carried it to the dealership many times. They installed a device to track what is causing the stall issue. They said the device did not read anything but the stalling was not happening as often after this device was removed. In October 2014, my vehicle began giving the hard start again every single time I start my vehicle and the stalling became very frequent. On November 4,2014 my vehicle stalled out and did not want to start resulting in me having to rent a car. I am really frustrated with this situation because all it is goin to do is affect another part on my vehicle. I had this for 4 years and I've had so much problems and had to change so many parts... this Jeep is the lemon of the bunch.

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is equipped with a V-8 5.7L engine failed because of a faulty fuel pump relay inside the totally integrated power module (tipm-7). Fortunately the vehicle was not moving at the time and would not start. The car has been sitting at the dealer since 11/4 because Chrysler has informed them that there is a backlog of well over 1,000 tipm-7 units and they don't know when or if they will be available (their words, not mine)! frankly, I am outraged as a consumer. I paid $42,000 for a vehicle I cannot use.

I'd like to register a formal complaint "for the record". regarding Chrysler group's recall #S P14, P36 and P54 for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4... parts are still not available (since May 2014 for the power brake booster!) this is totally unacceptable. Individually, the harbinger of these three (3) recalls could result in; (a) power-assisted braking failure, (B) a vehicle interior electrical fire and, (C) intermittent / unexpected engine shutdown. I contacted the Chrysler group recall assistance center today @ 1-800-853-1403 and spoke with "[xxx]"... received a pretty lame "bs" explanation about parts availability on all three (3) recalls and the method in which they are allocated to their dealerships. She could not commit as to when, if ever, my dealership would receive the required parts to remedy the outstanding recalls on my vehicle. My local dealership is a smaller, rural "mom & pop" store, so the question that begs to be asked is will I ever see these parts installed before there's a recall-related incident with my wife's vehicle? the recall "system" is apparently broken, as Chrysler group is not diligently fulfilling their safety obligations and nobody from NHTSA is apparently doing anything about enforcing it, quite disconcerting and unacceptable! as of today's registered complaint(s), kindly consider NHTSA and Chrysler group as officially put on notice of my complaint and of my dire concern for this particular situation. Note that the problem is not with my local dealership, as they've been trying to acquire the necessary parts on my behalf from Chrysler group. Please follow-up Chrysler group without further delay and report your findings to me. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
