Similar to complaint #2. When giving gas it began to hickup/sputter lightly. Within 20 miles on same trip the engine sounded horrible, sputtering, popping/backfiring, and getting little to no power. Car died on the side of the freeway minutes later. (steering went out along with break pressure)

Pep Boys estimated $3500, without guarantee of it even being fixed. I'm thinking the car is done for me at this point. They milked a grand from me just to diagnose, and all they can tell me is that it sounds fine when idling, but sputters when giving it gas. Thanks a lot, Pep Boys. That is exactly what I told you (and showed you) when I brought it in. They say they've narrowed it down to Catalytic Converter issues, or exhaust/muffler clog.

Did anyone ever have a solution for this without testing every possible problem known to man? Was this the end of your Pathfinder, too? I think I'm ready to move on at this point if so. Such a waste since it all started and ended within 30-40 minutes of driving from first sign (which was so slight, I didn't even think it was my car...but the road). No check engine lights or any other warnings occurred.

this is horrible.

I have no idea what is wrong with this car, I can't afford to take to a mechanic, I really was hoping to see if anyone else has had this issue and how to resolve it. Bucking, backfiring but no noise is about the only way to describe it.

When driving at a high rate of speed, I'll lose all my power. It is very difficult to pull over on the highway with no gas pedal. Once I pull over and shut off the engine and restart it, I'll be fine for almost another 20 miles. Along with this problem, I'm now starting to have my truck buck like it's back firing with no noise. This problem could be numerous things, but I've never ever had a check engine light come on. I could end up spending thousands of dollars trying to guess this problem.
