peeling paint

After a cold night in January, I came outside to find a large area of paint missing from the rear of the vehicle. The paint was just flaking off with bare metal underneath. There was also an area on the roof of the vehicle that was also flaking off. The paint in the door jams on the inside edges are also peeling. I'm not the original owner of the vehicle but upon further examination there are areas in the paint that you can tell were repaired in the past. The previous owner has confirmed that the two front fenders, section of roof above the windshield in front of the cargo tray, and a few spots on the rear C-Pillars were all repainted do to peeling paint.

Driving around my city, I have noticed other Nissan Xterras of the same year with Peeling paint as well. All of them happen to have blue paint. So beware of the Blue Xterras. It seems to be an issue. As a Mechanic with some auto body experience, I did my own repairs. I sanded away the area of paint until it stopped flaking off. I sanded it smooth with 2500 grit paper, and primed, painted, and clear coated it. I already had the equipment to do this repair. I spent maybe $200 on the paint and materials. At an average labor rate if you had to pay a shop to do this job, the cost would likely exceed the value of the vehicle at this age and mileage. So beware of used Xterras with Blue paint. It could turn into a problem.
