CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.

The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

Nissan sent us a email stating that they know of the problem and to take it in and have it fixed. but when we took it in to have the EVAP Emissions fixed the dealer said that Nissan is only willing to fix the small tube the runs down to and connects the system of the emissions for the clog but since the tube is clogged and starts at the top it could also effect the rest of the system. and Nissan is at this point not willing to fix the whole system which will now run me 1.000 to repair it. All Nissan is willing to replace is a 30.00 rubber tube . This is the second time Nissan has refused to help us with a major problem. last yr in Jan our radiator leaked into our transmission and cause 6900.00 worth of damage and when we called Nissan on that problem we were told that that case was closed and they wouldn't do anything for us. So at this point I would never buy another Nissan or tell anyone to buy one. as of right now we own a 2005 with 136000 miles on it and its falling apart, we have put over 7500.00 into it just in the past 15 months with no assist from Nissan. DON'T BUY A NISSAN EVER.
