CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.

The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the fuel gauge indicated that there was a quarter of fuel in the fuel tank and the vehicle was refueled. The vehicle remained indicating that there was a quarter of fuel in the tank and then indicated that the fuel tank was empty. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 81,000. Updated 09/30/14 the consumer stated the turn signal was replaced. The horn relay switch was replaced but the failure recurred. Updated 2/25/2015

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the horn was engaged and it failed to respond. The contact stated the horn would engage when turning the steering wheel either left or right. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they informed the contact that the failure was contributed to the spiral cable. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they were unable to provide any further assistance. The failure mileage was 80,000. Updated 04/01/11
