Where to start, .bought 1999 Grand Am GT in August of 2002 and ithas been downhill ever since. Replaced the alternator twice, have experienced the same intake manifold gasket problem, which was replaced, but still led to the demise of my engine, causing camshaft to snap in half. Thought the trouble was over with the rebuilt engine that was put in, but that was not the case. The window regulator broke in the middle of a snowstorm, causing me to drive with no driverside window. With the new regulator I assumed that the window would stop squeaking, which did not. I assumed the scratches on windows were just from me-sand or some other abrasive material in the window tracks--after reviewing other complaints I discovered I was not the only one with this problem. Have experienced various issues with the no trac/ABS lights, replaced the waterpump, done brakes 4 times in 4 years, front headlights are milky and make it hard to see at night. Have replaced the starter 4 times in just the past 2 years. Needless to say after reading all complaints I feel much better knowing that it is not just me, or my car, but all Pontiac. Bought the car for $10000, have put over $5000 worth of work into it. Will never buy another Pontiac.

Contact owns 1999, Pontiac, Grand Am. The contact stated while going around a curb she lost control of steering. The ABS light and the air bag light came on. While pushing the brakes it was like the vehicle was not even starting because brakes would not stop the vehicle. When the contact finally got off the road she pulled on the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. She turned the vehicle off, and when she went to restart the vehicle wheel loosened. She put vehicle in drive, pushed on the accelerator, and then pushed on the brakes and everything was fine. Also, contact stated that while starting the vehicle the rpms and speed odometer revved up to 120 mph and back to 5 mph before she even moved the vehicle or pressed on the accelerator. This almost caused her to hit another vehicle.

Automated braking system (ABS) failed causing traction control system to become disabled. It is an intermittent problem that happens at any time with no apperent reason. The last time it failed, it was a sensor in the hub. The sensor is part of the hub assembly so entire hub had be changed out to fix last problem. It is now having a failure in the ABS system again. Vehicle has only 80,000 miles.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. It has been in the shop at least every three months. The brakes have been replaced 3 times and the rotors twice. I take the car to an independent mechanic due to the dealer always saying nothing was wrong. The water pump went out, the manifold gasket cracked, the low track light has gone on since the day I bought it every time I turn left or right. The windows scratch and have been replaced once and scratched again about 2 months later, the dealer said it was the tinter that ruined them so I paid. I cant do that again so they remain scratched. I looked at a website mycarstats.com and there were 526 complaints and every single one had the same problems. I work with 5 other people that own Grand Am and we've all had the same trouble. Something has to be done, why do we have to be stuck with 1000S of dollars in car repairs and the manufacture not assume responsibility. I've had problems since I purchased the car brand new so there are several incident dates. Thank you.

Replaced brakes myself because it wasn't covered under warranty, had car in to be service and was told brake pads were defective. But because I had replace they could not do anything about it. I called Pontiac recently because another Grand Am owner told me that was not true. A woman took my complaint she didn't think that was right but after talking to the dealership said that was correct. I said I should not have to pay for a defect on a new car. I have gotten very bad service from the dealership. And the brakes are bad again after only 18,000 miles this time.

Have replaced the brakes and rotors through the dealership 3 times prior to current problem. Caliper is now froze up which in turn warped the rotor less then 24 hrs later. Have had problems with the front end alignment. Replaced 4 tires due to this problem which is currently chewing off new set of tires. Dealership refuses to replace caliper or rotor due to expired warranty on vehicle. Feel it is a persistent problem and should be corrected and fixed at either manufacturers expense or dealerships expense.
