Brakes grinding. Bought car used three weeks ago, noticed brakes grinding. Took car back to dealer and they replaced the brakes and turned the rotors. Brakes still grind and rotors form layer of rust while just washing the car!

I have 2 complaints. At around 48,000 miles I heard a grinding noise coming from the front end. Had to brakes replaced and still grinds. It has been about 10,000 miles now and still grinds. Brought back in to shop, they have no clue as to what is going on. Also, front end started pulsating 8,000 miles ago. Read some comments on the internet about this and seems there might be a problem with the braking system. Brought car in and cannot figure out what is causing it.2nd complaint. About 6,000 miles ago car would start in the morning and thoughout the day would not start on the first crank. Had to crank and give gas to get it started. Cannot figure out what is wrong. Had a diagnostic test done, no answers. Car has only 58,000 mile son it right now.

I have had nothing but problems with my 2000 Pontiac. The brakes have been replaced 3 times rotors have been replaced twice. My hub caps had to be replaced because they were all cracked. The buttons on my air conditioner/stereo control are stripped. Screws fall out by the dash, the truck is uneven, when it is closed 1 side is higher than the other, there's a gap, my windshield wiper hose is busted it leaks. Seat belt covers broke off. My side mirrors are disconnecting themselves. The dealer will not help me. Everytime I've gone up there I left upset. They do not stand behind their product. I've even sent letters with no response. I have a junk car. It is not worth the price. I also took it to the dealer because there is a rattling under my hood like a mount is gone. I took it and they said they did not see anything. Pontiac does not take the customers they have seriously. It is really sad. What am I to do as a consumer" who is willing to help" hopefully this will get their attention.

Brake pedal vibration and steering wheel shimmy at 17,000 miles. Front rotors warped and dealer replaced rotors and brake pads. Problem reoccured at 28,000 miles. Dealer found nothing wrong. Took car to dealer at 31,300 mi. For oil change and same braking problem. Front rotors needed to be machined. Did not solve the problem at high speeds. Returned car to dealer one week later and they replaced the front rotors again but not the brake pads at no charge. The service rep. Told me that Pontiac has had this problem with the Grand Am for years and that it is a defect in the wheel design and rotor. I asked what would happen once the new car warranty expires and was told he didn't know. They have my service records on file and he hoped I wouldn't have to pay for future rotor replacements caused by defective design but couldn't say for sure. I purchased a new car specifically so I wouldn't have to deal with costly repairs for a number of years. Dealer says rotors have been re-designed and should be better. So far that has not proved to be the case. This is a design flaw that I believe the manufacturer should correct and not make the purchaser liable for repair costs on a defective part after the warranty expires.

Vehicle had only 23000 miles on it of which E16000 miles was highway. Brakes wore out prematurely and dealer refuses to list this as a warranty item. NHTSA files show this to be an issue with othe Grand Am of the same year. This should be a safety issue, re premature wear out, rotor damage, noisy front brakes, and vibration while stopping. Dealer has informed me that this will happen again in about the same mileage period.

I no longer own this car, but have heard from other Grand Am owners the same story. I feel that this is ridiculous and expensive if the car is not under warranty. I hope that something will be done about these incidents, so that future accidents can be avoided. Luckily my Grand Am was leased. It went back after the lease was over. I felt that it was scary and dangerous that I had to replace the front brakes after 24000 miles on the car. The car was actually leased by my mother, but I drove the car and made the payments. The name on the lease would have been dorothy cool. I hope that these claims will be investigated for the safety and well being of other GM owners.

This is my 4th new car. I always lease so I turn in my cars at 45,000+ miles. To date I have never needed new pads let alone discs prior to 45,000 miles. To date I have had my brakes replaced 2X and am now in need of a 3rd set. Two weeks ago I took my car in for soft pedal/long travel - dealer states no problem found. I am very concerned with regard to the safety of this vehicle. Note: I am very pleased with my dealer.

Front rotors replaced 3X and pads replaced 2X within 14 months of having vehicle and 11,276 miles. Pontiac customer service contacted 2X with complaints filed. Awaiting return call from supervisor at central Florida location. Dealer states that Grand Am's are being brought in for 2 major items: Braking system and air conditioning. Stated that problem with rotors wearing may be caused by city driving? rotors replaed on vehicle approx. Every 3K to 5K miles. In the process of contacting bbs and attorney general as well as a certified letter to manufacturer is in progress regarding braking system problems and safety concerns.
