Lower set of back up lights built into bumper, filled up with dirt, water, and mud. This water gets trapped between lens and reflective housing, turning housing black and shorting out bulbs.

The turn signals and tail lights have a short in them. I asked a mechanic that works on GM products about it and he said that he has replaced numerous hazard light switches because that is was seems to be the problem. He told me how to check if that was my problem and sure enough that is what is wrong with mine. When I go to use my turn signals sometimes they fail, and when they fail so does my tail lights. When my turn signals fail if I press the hazard button in the center of my dash several times they will start working again. To me that is dangerous and I shouldn't have to do that. He said he has changed this part not only on Grand Am but on all of the GM cars that have the hazard switch in the center of the dash from years 1999-2001.
