I've seen a white smoke coming out of the left side of the steering column several times(5-6). It can happen any time, does not have to be hot or cold. It was pissing me off because I thought I would have a fire inside of my dashboard. It is not funny because I know a person who's car burned down on the side of the road because of the short in the radio. I have an extinguisher in my trunk now, but hopefully it will not come to that.

It also coincides with my turn signal switch malfunctioning on one or the other side. When I am turning my signal on, the lever does not stay in the on position and I have to hold it with my finger to show people that I am turning or merging. Also, the top side of my plastic column is melted.

Every now and again a thin plume of smoke would rise from the steering column and an electrical burning smell would come with it. Never did find out why.
