Received service advisory from Pontiac two weeks ago. Contacted local Pontiac dealer and was told it was not a recall at that point and to wait for the recall notice in the mail. My 2000 Pontiac gtp went up in flames this afternoon due to the exact issue outlined in the service advisory. Due to Pontiac refusal to correct their safety issue, my car is totaled, and I am out thousands of dollars. Through research I discovered, that I am not the only one that has had this happen to them, some 267 cases reported on the internet, many have filed complaints with Pontiac and your Agency as well, with no results. I am hoping that someone would be willing to help resolve this problem. I am thankful my six year old daughter was not in the car at the time of the fire. I would appreciate your response to this complaint.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L V6 December 10, 2007 observed low coolant during routine oil/filter change. Filled coolant reservoir and performed oil/filter change. December 12 callaremi, 385 rt. 46 East hackettstown NJ 0784 Pontiac: Took car for repair of coolant leak. Dealer failed to diagnose issue and was told the car was fine. March 15th 2008, low coolant light indicator came on. Proceeded to performed routine oil/filter change and added coolant. March 21st 2008, experienced rough start and ticking noise. The noise was constant during cold start and remained after engine reached operating temperature. March 24th 2008, took car back to callaremi for service of engine ticking noise. Was told noise was due to a # 3 cylinder intake lifer collapsed and bent push rod. I proceeded to argue that failure to service car according to tsb 03-06-01-016 'loss of coolant, milky colored oil caused either excessive wear of the lifter or created hydroloc condition'. tsb clearly indicates problems with intake gaskets and recommends replacement if coolant loss is not found to be caused by an external link (I.e. probable cause internal coolant leak). Repairs for single lifter/rod/rocker arm was $1010.

I was driving and my engine caught on fire. I was able to stop the vehicle and put out fire. Insurance company states engine fires was covered under my insurance, but only corrected what melted(engine cover, oil filler/cap, gasket cover, plugs and wiring). I still do not have any idea what started the fire or whether or not the fire will happen again. My engine is stalling and it still smell like something is burning.

2000 pontaic Grand Prix gtp great vehicle until I drove 30 minutes came back from lunch and parked; 10 min later the engine compartment completely on fire! the hot spot seem to be on top of the engine near the supercharger and more on the passenger side. There has been many many complaints about this same thing happening to the gtp's. vehicle had no other problems before this, no check engine light on, all fluids perfect and serviced by myself a mechanic of 15 yrs. People need to know about this before someone dies from this.

Intermitently engine refuses to start. It appears to be when the engine and weather are hot. The vehicle has stalled on the highway. The dealer has tested the battery and charging system. No problems found in this area. Dealer can not duplicate the problem. I suspect a control module type issue.

Vehicle would stall upon acceleration. Vehicle has been taken to dealer on several occasions, but dealer has not provided remedy. Dealer has rerouted wiring harness and some other wiring on two occasions with no success, crankshaft sensor has been replaced and consumer has driven with a data recorder and vehicle failed again, recorder indicated ignition voltage was lost, ignition switch was replaced and less than one week later, vehicle stalled again, dealer this time replaced the relay and consumer has only driven once since repair.

When vehicle engine is running, it is supposed to chime when a door is opened, but only chimes sometimes. Also, when computer flashes "low" to indicate low fuel, it should chime 3 times, but only chimes once if it chimes at all. After 10 months, the dealer still cannot fix it.

I feel this vehicle has numerous safety defects. This car is to new to have had the items listed replaced. Unfortuneately the dealer cannot duplicate the problem with the acceleration. My children are very important to me and I will be trading this vehicle off very soon. I have asked 3 times for a component box and knowone can seem to locate one. I feel the dealership is falling short on their part of "obligated 36 months or 36,000 miles". this is the response I am getting from Pontiac. Unfortuneately "Alabama" is the only state that I know of that does not have a lemon law. Is there any other options that a consumer has and if there is what are they?
