Stopped by police for no brake lights. Investigation revealed a problem in the hazard portion of the multifunction switch. Was able to get the hazards working, but switch will need replacement soon. This is same as NHTSA action number PE07001.

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT with 63000 miles. About a week ago I was traveling to work on a major highway when I had a vehicle come within inches of my bumper. I continued on to my job and the driver pulled into the parking lot next to me. I was then notified I have no brake lights. Since this time my husband has tried to replace both bulbs, the fuse the stop lamp switch and checked wiring for any issues. None of these have solved the issue. Looking through the net I have seen 100's of complaints from Pontiac owners with the same problem and I have to wonder why Pontiac has not lived up to their end of the bargain and done a recall on this.

I was stopped by a cop because my brake lights didn't work. I replaced the bulbs thinking that's what it was, but they still didn't work. It turns out that my center window brake light works but not my brake lights. Apart from that my hazard light is stuck. I tried pushing it when I had to pull over but it didn't want to go down or anything.
