The contact owns a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact was driving 15 mph when a grinding noise emitted after the brakes were depressed, and the vehicle lunged forward abnormally. The contact believed the failure was caused by the ABS. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing nor was the manufacturer notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 90,200. The consumer stated GM was notified about the hydraulic ABS failure. Updated 05/21/12

At low speeds the anti-lock brakes come on and affect braking. This also happens when backing up. This has almost caused at least three accidents!

ABS activated at normal stop at very slow speed. Continued at every touch of the brake for nearly 2 miles, even when barely touching the brake. Difficult to stop the vehicle. Not occurred since. Pontiac dealer can find no problem, no code, however I'm concerned will happen again.

The contact states the ABS warning light comes on repeatedly. The on board roadside assistants told her there is a problem with the ABS. When the vehicle was taken to a dealership they could not duplicate the problem. The problem occurs more frequently while traveling longer distances.

I was driving down a 4 lanes highway heading home at 2:30P.M. as I proceeded to slow down for a red light, all the lighs in the vehicle flashed and then everything went out, including my power steering and brakes. Luckly no cars were to my right and I was able to turn the stiff wheel some and jump a crib. I then had to use my parking brake to stop the vehicle.

Problem: Braking system problem. Occurred only once so far. I had stopped at a store and when I left, the first time I applied the brake it felt the same as if I had just gone through a car wash (much greater pedal pressure needed to stop). I continued on to my workplace and had to apply the brakes several more times. Each subsequent time the same condition happened. Much greater pedal pressure was required to bring the car to a stop. It felt as though 50-75% of the braking power was gone. I immediately checked the fluid and it was right at the max line. Strangely, when I left work several hours later the problem disappeared and has not happened since. Obviously I'm concerned about it possible happening again. I'm guessing it must have been an electronic glitch of some sort??!
