This has been the best car I have ever owned. Not perfect, but reliable good on gas and lots of power. Also it is a great looking car. But I have had it checked for codes and there are none. Even though the rad fans will not come on unless I turn on the A/C. A pain in the ass in the winter. Have checked the relays fuses and all suggestions found online. Still no answers. Is there more than one sensor for this? The instrument cluster heat gauge works fine. I have changed the thermostat. Does anyone have any ideas?

Update from Oct 21, 2021: At 298000 km coolant leak showed up spraying out between the front passenger side cylinder head and block. This was impossible to detect while it was just seeping. Pulled the heads for cylinder head gasket replacement. There I found that the cylinder head gasket was defective, possibly from damage to the gasket during assembly at the factory. Replaced and problem solved. I suspect this as the primary cause of coolant loss over the last 5 years.

I bought this car a month prior to having issues. Then it started overheating daily. The coolant system was plugged, so I had the radiator replaced and the whole system flushed. It seemed to be fine for about 3 weeks after this. Then I had problems again. Apparently replacing the radiator increased the pressure of coolant flow to a proper pressure, which caused the Elbow Joints to the water pump to literally explode. My car was like a water fountain, but with melting hot coolant. Elbow Joints were replaced, system flushed and filled. Car was fine for a short while after this as well. I currently have a small leak somewhere because I have to fill coolant about once every month or so.

The coolant system while being religiously maintained caused the aluminum engine to overheat to the extent that every head cracked.
