CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

It appears that defective materials were used in the manufacture of the front dash of my 2007 Toyota Camry. The dash is literally melting. The surface has become tacky, soft and easily damaged by touch. This issue is now being described by Toyota customers as "?melting dash?". this deterioration of the dash has also created an abnormal sheen or glare when in sunlight as has been previously reported by others. If chemical changes are in fact occurring during this abnormal deterioration process I am concerned that "off gasing" of harmful or toxic chemicals may be introduced in the confined space of the occupied vehicle. My understanding is that this problem is associated with direct sunlight and hot temperatures and is being reported from various southern states including Florida & Hawaii. Toyota has stated that they will not remedy the situation because the vehicle warranty has expired.

Sticky / melting dash, dash cracking, creating a glare when driving. I bought this car new and Toyota would not stand behind their product knowing its defective, even when it was under the Toyota brand extended warranty. The vehicle is garage kept and out in the sun when I go shopping for food. I am retired and don't drive much.

I returned from the northeast. My car was in my garage. My entire dashboard seemed to be melting. You could put your hand on it and your hand would stick to it. It was very dangerous because it was very shiny and the dash would be reflected in the front windshield. You were unable to see clearly through the window. It's happened every October when I return to Florida, Toyota wouldn't acknowledge that it was their responsibility or even a problem. I just found out through a local news story that many car owners in our area have the same problem.

The dashboard in my 2007 Toyota Camry has started melting off, and under the sun's heat it becomes very soft, sticky and bright, and when the sun reflects on the dashboard it causes visibility/safety issues. Also, I'm afraid the airbag under the dashboard may become affected if the dashboard cracks or breaks.

On my 2007 Toyota Camry I have noticed that the front dashboard became very shiny and become very sticky and has since started to deteriorate. The shine coming from the dashboard reflects and causes a harsh glare which makes it very hard to see through the windshield. Also, the passenger side air bag sensor is not working, it remains off no matter what. Not sure if this is related to the dashboard melting but I have searched the internet and have seen several complaints of this same issue.

When I bought the car I didn't notice that the dash was so sticky. It is really bad like it is melting and if you touch it and your nail hits it. It takes a big chuck out of the dashboard so upset about this. I noticed alot of complaints so sad. It just looks terrible and dusty cause you can not touch it unless your hand sticks to it.

My husband and I own a 2007 Toyota Camry which we purchased in 2007 from mike erdman Toyota in merritt island, fl. In 2009, while cleaning the dashboard with a damp cloth with water, I noticed the top of the dashboard was gummy and sticky. I googled information on this in 2009, but there wasn't a lot of information on it back then. Since then, my dashboard had gotten worse and there is a glare on my windshield that makes it very dangerous to drive. On April 17, 2014, I called mike erdman Toyota where we purchased the car and the service area representative, [xxx] told me that they are aware of the problem but they were informed by Toyota that only customers that have been "loyal" customers who have had their maintenance and service work done at the dealership would have the problem fixed. I was appalled that she would say that to me. I told her that I go where I want to go to get my car serviced and I felt that what she just said to me was like blackmail. I asked to speak with a manager but she said she would talk to him. She called me back the same day and said the manager would give me an answer tomorrow (4/18/14). By 5:00 on 4/18/14 when I didn't get a call back, I called [xxx]. she said her boss said the cost of the job would be $1,652. And that they would give me 20% off ($330.). I said why would I have to pay anything for a defective part? she said she didn't know if it was defective. I said it is. All she had to do is google Toyota Camry sticky dashboards and she will come up with a whole lot of people with the same exact problem. She said she doesn't believe everything she reads on the internet. She admitted to me the day before that there was indeed a problem. I informed her I was going to get in touch with Toyota and she said "fine". information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The dashboard of my vehicle has become very sticky and shiny causing a visibility hazard due to the reflection on the windshield. The dealer advised that the only "remedy" is to replace the dashboard since I am unable to even touch the surface to possibly wipe off the shine. Toyota (all vehicle manufacturers for the matter) should be charged with the responsibility of installing materials that do not become a hazard to drivers over time.

Over the past couple years I have noticed that the dash on my 2007 Camry has started to change. It has become sticky and is starting to peel away from the underlying foam. It appears to be worse on the upper portion of the dash where the sun/heat would shine. When I contacted my local dealership about this issue at my last service they said they were unaware of the problem and that I must have used a chemical to cause this problem. I told them that I had done some research about this and that it seems to be a common problem with this year/model. They told me I would need a new dash. It would take a day and a half to install and cost just under $2100. I purchased this car new December 2006. It has been well taken care of, never used any chemicals on the dash to have caused this issue.

The dash has become very sticky and shiny like it is melting. When you drive towards the sun, the glare off the shiny dash is so bad you cannot see out of the windshield. Toyota will not recognize that there is a problem and will only give a small loyalty amount towards the repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. I have been talking to Toyota for since 2011 and they are not willing to help. This is a tremendous safety issue.

I purchased a new Toyota Camry 2007, I have cared for the car well, have kept it in my garage, and do not use everyday. About 8 months ago, I noticed that parts of the dashboard were beginning to peel off. I took my car to the dealership and they told me that this was due to the heat and to not touch it. Over the last four months the peeling on the dashboard has grown worse.the dashboard now looks shiny as if oil has been applied to the surface. When touched it feels sticky. I took the car to the dealership again and I was told it was due to the high temperature in Florida, and that they could not fix it, because my warranty had expire. They told me that this was a common problem with Toyota models manufacture between 2007 and 2010 yet they never did a recall for this factory defect. I talked to corporate and they are willing to pay half. I don't believe this is fair as it is not my fault that Toyota used low quality material that has been unable to withstand heat in Florida. I would appreciate if you could take some action to help address this matter. Thank you.

I own a 2007 Camry. The dashboard of the car is melting, surface is very sticky, shiny and when touched with finger it is coming off like glue. While driving the surface is so glossy it creates very bright glare from sun light, sometimes it blinds driver's road visibility creating a potential road hazard. Dashboard surface has turned into a very soft material and it can be easily scraped off.

The dashboard near to the windshield is tacky and sticky. It appears that the dash is releasing a chemical similar to glue. I've contacted multiple Toyota dealerships and Toyota directly and they claim to have never heard of this issue. But a simple search of the internet shows this happening nationwide. I did purchase my 2007 Toyota Camry SE new at the end of 2006. My windows are tinted with 20% and I use a sunshade regularly and this problem has become more evident this past month/
