I seem to have the infamous "shudder" that the 2014-2015 MDXs have. Shifting rough and surging going up inclines and flat surfaces at around 35-40 mph. I wish they would just make it a recall because its such a common issue. Theres a TSB out for the fix(es) but not everyone can afford these fixes. It's the torque converter lock-up clutch. Service Bulletin 16-062 issued in 9/2018. They say the transmission is not damaged by this "shudder" but now my tranny feels as if its slipping and its shifting harder between 30-65mph. I will say it again, this is such a common problem that I feel it warrants a recall!

When going 32-45mph either going up a slight incline or fat surface; it seems that the transmission is not shifting into a lower gear. The vehicle jerks back and forth and the RPM's fluctuate violently between 2-3k RPM's. This will continue unless I either completely stop giving it gas or I give it more gas so it will shift down. I have changed transmission fluid which helped but didn't fix the issue. I have reported this issue to NHTSA and encourage others to do the same so we might get resolution with a recall. We love our MDX but this issue could turn out to be very costly.

I purchased a 2015 Acura MDX/AWD vehicle in August of 2017, at 26,000 mile with a history of being a fleet vehicle. About 2 months after I purchased it, I noticed that when I would put the truck in reverse, it would jerk a little. So I took it into the dealership and they were not able to duplicate the problem.

Then in December of 2017, when I would go from 1st - 2nd gear, I noticed a jerking or hard transition, like it was slipping, not all the time but becoming more frequent as time went on. Once I turned the truck off and back on again it would do fine. I took it into the dealership again and no one could duplicate it. They did a transmission fluid change and that fixed it until 1/17/19. On 1/17/19, the third time I was able to keep the truck running long enough for the Acura Mechanic to due a ride along and experience the problem first hand. They sent the diagnostics to California and the results were that they were going to try replacing the Transmission Valve Body and the fluid again, to see if that fixes it.

I really like this vehicle, but I am not interested in purchasing a new transmission with only 59,995 miles on the vehicle. Right now I am under warranty, but based on the multiple attempts to fix the problem, I don't really think they know what is going on.

My car would "randomly" try to switch from 1st gear to 2nd (at low speed), decide not to go into 2nd, and literally hurl forward and remain at the low speed. This happened COMPLETELY randomly. Once it started, it would last for the whole ride. When I re-started the car, it would disappear. I took my car into the dealership MULTIPLE times and they claimed they never heard of such a thing and could not duplicate it. Finally I took it in while it was happening and they said "oh, man, this is terrible." I was literally scared to drive the car because I did not know when it would start and the car would not drive normally. It would jump all over the road. This went on FOR OVER A YEAR as the dealership could not recreate the issue.

The first time they agreed it was a problem, they switched out a third gear pressure switch and said all was well. Nope, less than a week later it was happening again. I took it in again and they... replaced the third gear pressure switch, AGAIN, and told me they drive to for over 300 miles with zero issues. I literally live less than 10 miles from the dealership and on my way home, it started jumping all over the place. I called the dealership and they said there was nothing they could do since they could not recreate the problem. I had to open a case with Acura.

I took it into the dealership for the 3rd time while the issue was happening and they agreed to replace my transmission. This took over A YEAR to resolve. I was not near the dealership every time it happened, so I could not bring it in every time. And as a working executive, driving to the car dealership multiple times a month was ridiculous. It just found it incredibly hard to believe that I could drive my car 10 miles and I could recreate the issue and the dealership could drive it hundreds of miles and it was perfect. A couple of times multiple lights on the dashboard turned on (engine, transmission, emissions), but after the car was turned off, they would all go away.

Very, very, very frustrating on a car that had around 35,000 miles when the issues started. I have owned only Hondas and never, every experienced an issue. A new transmission at 45,000 miles is very upsetting.
