dashboard error message: "steering lock: system fault

Light came on as I was driving. I spoke to two different service advisors in the same dealer and was told, 1. the car might not start after I have turned it off and if it does start, steering wheel may be locked, and 2. I should get off the road as quickly as possible, steering may go at any minute. Hassel to deal with this in the first 10 months of the car (and only 11,000 miles.)
