On Monday 3/9/2020 around 6:45pm edt, I was driving in a residential zone approx. 25-30 mph. I approached a stop sign and pressed the brake to stop the car. The car slowed slightly but did not stop, despite my intense pressure on the brake pedal. Instead, the engine revved spontaneously several times and I proceeded half-way through the (thankfully empty) intersection. I confirmed I was in regular drive gear (not the semi-manual mode), then quickly put the car in park to stop the vehicle, but the engine continued to rev. I turned the ignition off and back on, then continued driving without further incident. That night, I searched online and found another customer reported a nearly identical experience with a 2017 Audi Q5 on March 16 2017 (brakes failed problem). That customer's dealer found a fault with the ABS brake module, which was repaired. I took my car to an Audi dealer (zip code 48301) the following day but they were unable to find any "faults" and therefore make any repairs. The vehicle is 2017 with approx. 17K miles, still under oem warranty.

Front brakes appear to squeak loudly after initiation with moisture; more seriously there is considerable locking/sliding of the brakes when attempting to stop on snow and ice -- at a more dangerous distance than our other 2 vehicles in similar situations. Vehicle (2017 Q5) has 22K miles with the ABS system/tires appearing to be in good working order. My wife and I have used multiple stopping techniques (pumping brakes, applying soft pressure, and also hard pressure) with the same result: On 2 occasions the vehicle essentially locked up and slid 1/2 way through an intersection. Fortunately no pedestrians/vehicles were nearby. I read several blogs regarding this with other owners citing the same problems. There appears to be VW/Audi observances regarding issues with 2018 vehicles with the lack of either a supplier-deficient caliper spray/loose bolt in the front braking area. We are kindly asking to review this situation to determine if others have reported the same problem. We will also be asking our dealer to fully inspect the vehicle. We are aware that snow/ice represent challenges -- but this vehicle has scared my wife/I multiple times by not stopping within a reasonable distance despite the adverse conditions.

On Thursday March 16th approx around 6 pm, I was driving back home from work. When I tried to stop the car at a stop light (driving approx 40-45 miles/hr speed on a straight road) by pushing the break pedal the vehicle slowed down, but failed to stop completely and continued to roll autonomously at a slower speed. As I continued to push the brake, engine revved up twice spontaneously. I immediately shifted the gear to park and the vehicle stopped. Approx a minute later I shifted back to drive and drove the car home. Next morning I drove the car to Audi dealership and they ran the vehicle diagnostic and identified a faulty ABS control module which has since been replaced. Since it involved brake failure and spontaneous acceleration I am submitting the compliant to to NHTSA. I have also sent an email to Audi usa today regarding this. I just took the car back from service today and I will continue to observe for any issues and update NHTSA and Audi usa. Please feel free to contact me should you need any additional information.
